there are any diamond/gold investors here? I am going to have to sell two diamond engagement rings, mother's & grandmothers. Also wedding band that goes with grandmothers ring and a broken gold wedding band. My mother had them both appraised in the 90's by an independent jeweler and I have that certificate. I also have a string of cultured pearls (old) and lots of misc. like buttons from my fathers WWII army uniform, other odds and ends. I have med bills that need paying and no one to pass this stuff on to, so might as well try to get what I can. If anyone might be interested PM me for pics etc.. I will post them on Ebay in two weeks or so. Thanks!

Hi Nancy, It may not be the best time for you to sell diamonds. I had a diamond ring passed down to me that I checked on selling to a local jeweler that buys gold and precious stones. According to them, although gold is very high right now, diamonds are low. This ring was pretty old, and the new ways of cutting diamonds bring out the flash and color much better. That lowered the price even more. Bottom line....for a pretty heavy gold ring with a nice size diamond (over 1/2 k.) they offered me about $90. I decided to hang onto it....hope you have better luck. I have been trying to hock my engagement ring from my ex, and even with a 3.7 carat diamond I can only get 1/8 of what it is worth, diamonds are just too cheap for dealers to buy. I decided to hang on to it and save Tony some $$ someday, LOL. I did see something called red swan or something where you send in jewelry they send you a check and if you are not happy you can get the pieces back, now I forget, I will have to find that for you. Always best to get bids from several jewelers. A news show did that a while back and the amounts varied widely (for gold). The one that advertises non-stop was 1/2 the amount offered by independent jewelers.

The places that you mail your jewelry to are real thieves. They give you pennies on the dollar for your stuff. One news organization did a test and one place responded that the stuff wasn't really gold and they were going to give them $20 for what had been appraised at $750 by the news organization. These buyers are really out to take advantage of the desperate people out there. Bob
