A few months back I picked this up at a local antique shop. There was no label on it. This side is loaded with chrystals going down almost the whole length of the bone. I think it is neat how it fits in the hand. I would love any thoughts on what it really is and what kind of animal it came from. Thanks for looking. Lori

Lori, you might try this link. bassexpert.com/fossil/index.htm You'll have to sign up to use the site, but they have pros to help with identification of fossils. I've used them a couple of times with good results. Don

Don, thanks for the link to the site. I just signed up and posted it there. It looks like a really interesting forum with lots of info so now I'll be toggling between rocks and bones. lol
I appreciate your help.

Glad I could help. I have 7 or 8 different sites that I use, and including this site, 3 different discussion sites. You meet all sorts of interesting people, and learn tons of new info. Don

It looks like a piece of antler to me.

Didn't think of antler. I'm still scratching my head on this one. Someone from another site said it looked like the outter edge of big shell because of the bumps and indents (my own words).

Look at the ends of the piece with a loupe. If you can see what looks like cell structure, it's not a piece of shell. Possible antler, but I'm betting on jaw bone. Don

I saw a fossil antler today and I still think it may be an antler. I don't see cells on the inner part like you would see on bone.
