Hello all. It's been a while since I posted some wraps. To be honest, I'm just too undermotivated to do the whole photobucket thing. Well here are some from earlier in the year. As always, feel free to hit me with the hard criticism. I prefer it over being nice, as it helps me improve. Thanks Serpentine (lemon-lime color) using a new style for me where the wire was done almost as a seperate sculpture. A Lake Ontario beach rock, self-collected naturally. More excited about the cab than the wrap. The wrap is pretty basic. Lazulite self-collected at Graves Mt. The gray speckles are actually silver-shiny-whatever but it didn't show up that way. This came off of a Lazulite boulder that I wish I could have rolled out of the place. One thing with Lazulite is most I have seen had a medium-gray base that shows up when grinding but this is the first light-gray base I've worked. IMO it comes out way better. I hope I found more of this than the other. I have some more recent ones but I'll put those in another post so I don't bog you all down with pictures. Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

Larry,
I have the same view as you.........I want an honest critique of my work, not smoke blown up my arse just to keep things nice LOL. You just dont improve that way.
I tend to prefer the basic simple wraps so the second one is my favorite of the bunch. Your bindings are nice and tight on all. Im generally not a fan of lots of loops and sculpture on a pendant because it takes away from the main focal point, the stone. However, yours are done higher up on the bail so it at least doesnt cover the cab. I would probably have a hard time wearing the first one because of the extra wire but I DO like how it almost has an astronomy theme, like the rings around a planet.

Larry, always been a fan of your style and I see what you are saying about the second one. Just doesn't have the balance of the others. That said, sometimes that effect can make a piece more interesting, as I think it works with the patterns in the stone in that second wrap. The first one has a cool raindrop coming from a storm cloud kinda look to it. So cool that you found the Lazulite yourself and I like that wrap too. Looking forward to seeing more. Jo

Thanks for the comments and input. The one thing I try and always do is make the whole thing work together, weights and balances and such. The good news is I have a whole bunch more wraps to go in my life so I can deal with some I'm not too happy with. The funny thing is the ones I'm least happy with, people tend to like and the ones I am super excited about, people are not. Maybe I'm doing it wrong

If I've learned anything, it's that each person has such different taste. Sometimes I run out to show people something really funky because I was challenging myself on some technical skills, and they look at it and don't get why I'm excited at all. I have to make myself remember that what someone sees for the first time is not what I am usually seeing, unless I make a conscious adjustment to my perception. It's like we are seeing all the tiny details that add up to make the piece, and they are looking at the whole as a snapshot.
I saw someone wearing one of my groove wraps last weekend and it looked totally different than I remembered seeing it. I had to look twice before I recognized that it was my work.
Hope I was making sense here, LOL. Jo

What Jo said is so true. Larry, your work is beautiful. The second one down is striking to me. Perfect wire work for the cab.
One suggestion for your first one is that you close the loop on the right hand side. Those have a tendancy to catch in clothing.
I see a heart holding on to a circle. Quite symbolic imho.

Thanks for the compliments. One thing I noticed when I put the picture of the first one up is that open wire. It is actually a closed little loop, just like the left side, but the picture was taken at just the right angle where the loop lined up and looked like a dead-end wire. Thanks again for all of the input. I have better stuff coming, just have to finish the wraps up.

Larry: Me and Shan are total opposites , LOL, I like a lot of flash and bling and I really like the sphere thingy! I do like when the ornamentation doesn't take away from the stone so that is why I like it at the top of the piece as in the first one. I always like to test them out to make sure they don't scratch or catch on clothing, so as long as that is not an issue I think you have great originality and strong technical skills, and I am not blowing smoke up your arse! IMHO, compliments on wraps also helps because it tells you that people like what they see. I suppose for me it helps me keep wrapping. Constructive criticism and comments are helpful too but it can be nice when someone says the wrap is beautiful. That said, the first wrap doesn't seem to compliment the stone because the wire work draws my eye to the wire rather than to the stone. It is interesting. The second one is simple but it works for the cab although I don't care for the little "hitch" on the bottom right side wire on the stone. It doesn't look like it fits but I've had to do stuff like that to hold the stone in better. I think Jo hit the nail on the head so to speak. Each person has different tastes. I've done some I hated but other people really liked. I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
