I get all my wire now from Rio Grande. I call all my orders in and the customer service is great. Their shipping is a bit high but I figure worth it for the service. I have them ship usps instead of ups as it seems to ship quicker and is just a little less expensive plus if you are not in a real hurry, they offer economy shipping through usps. I also send my scrap to them for credit.

I use Rio Grande too. The economy shipping works well for me. I have had no problems with them. I did make the mistake of buying a small amount of wire spooled. It came on a large spool. I now order all my wire coiled which is usually an option for their wire.

Rio Grande is the only way to go, I've tried just about everyone else.

Paul, For what it's worth, Monsterslayer.com was good to me. I only ordered wire from them once, but no problems, and I think the price was fair.

I only order from Monsterslayer myself. I have been happy with everything about them so far and they also ship very fast. At the time I started with my wrapping I checked 4 or 5 places and they worked best for price and selection. Also, you can sell them back your scrap, which is cool. Not sure how many dealers offer that, maybe they all do, but it's still a nice option. I have no plans to go anyplace else, which is how satisfied I am.

I use wire sculpture, the prices are decent, and the only ones who take paypal that I have found.... They may not be the cheapest...but I like the paypal convenience, as this is where my "allowance" for wire is. www.wire-sculpture.com/384.html

dead soft is the easiest to manipulate but also its the easiest to ding up. I use half hard because I am heavy handed
You could order a little of dead soft and a little of half hard to see which you prefer to work with

I use half-hard only because that's how I started and am comfortable with it. I don't have any trouble with moving the wire around.
As FrogandBear said you gain some manipulation with dead soft but suffer in some areas. When I do my wraps, I am careful to get a nice flow with the wire at the top, where the curves are all smooth. I am assuming here but I think dead soft would cause some problems with perfect curves because it would bend too easy and may cause the curves to flatten out in spots. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong though.
Either way, good luck and enjoy!

Yep, I'm Rio Grande all the way too for silver and gold-filled. I order both half-hard and dead soft. I'm now at the point that it doesn't matter what I use, but I tend to wrap differently with each kind. I do prefer the half-hard though because It just feels more "set" and stable when the wrap is finished. Jo

I revisited this thread because I just did a wrap with 20 gauge copper. It is dead soft, but still was rather difficult to manipulate. In the smaller gauges I have had no problem with half hard, but suspect that half hard would have been next to impossible for me on this particular wrap with 20 gauge.

I am fairly new to this art, about 2 1/2 months, but I like dead soft mostly just for twisting. So if you need to twist (square wire that is) it hardens up after it's twisted. Otherwise for me half hard is better. I like www.Jewelrysupplycloseouts.com but then I also am a member there and get an additional 25% off that helps a lot. Rio Grande is also very nice imho.

Check Rio Grande pricing against your discount. It would not surprise me if you still save money. Ed
