First of all, let me tell you what a great community you guys have going here. I have been looking around and this site looks terrific.
My name is Luis, and I live in Colombia, South America. Just wanted to say hello to all. I have been a great fan of stones since I was very little. Its only now that it has become an obsession. I wish to learn everything there is to selecting, cutting, and giving life to stones.
I have been picking up stones from the seashore and riversides on every trip I make hoping that one day I could make a beautiful necklace or similar. I asked around and it is very expensive to have them polished for you, so I decided to go ahead and learn to do it myself.
I am interested in learning everything there is to know in this beatiful art, and I see that there are a lot of experienced artists in this community. I hope to learn a lot from you.
Thanks to all in advance.

Hola! (I hope I got that right, lol!) Yes, welcome very much to you! I am still very new at this also, having been at it for a little more than a year now. Thanks to all these great folks, I have been able to make a lot of progress. I look forward to seeing you progress along also. And, yes, this is a very addicting hobby, not much of anything else like it. Being able to not only see the transformation from rough rock to finished stone, but to be able to take it through the process yourself, is fantastic! We look forward to hearing from you a lot!

Hello, and welcome from the antipodes, Luis! I also like to pick pebbles from beaches, there are a lot of nice surprises there. There are lots of things to learn from here, have fun and please don't forget to share pictures of your rocks and your part of the world.
