I went by a gravel pit this morning and asked for permission to hand pick material. They rolled their eyes a bit but let me in. I found some Mammoth teeth: Nice enamel Roots enamel Mammoth tusk, the bark (outer material) is hard but the inner material is like chalk but is a brilliant white: Bones Mammoth toe bone second joint, ID'ed by a geologist that was looking for.....Bones! He was happy to answer my questions. Nice gent. Pet Palm This piece of wood is infested with chalcedony Wood Two woods at the left, flint at the top right, not sure at btm right. I see potential here. There were several large botryoidal masses laying around. I brought this one with me to see what it looks like after cutting: The rain finally ran me out of the pit but I'll have to come back. I had about 30# of rock so he said he get me next time. This rock sells for about $12 a ton. I'll have to bring him some donuts or cookies next time around. Maybe some shiny rocks? Thanks for looking.

Drooling, Drooling, drooling! That mammoth tooth, the palm wood and all the others are fantastic!
3rd pic from end, the rock in the upper right, could that be stromatolite?

Outstanding!!!! I would just fall over and flop around on the ground if I found a mammoth tooth. The palm is outstanding as well.

Do you realise how special your rocks are, if you managed to drag Curt out of "Life, Universe & Everything" back into rocks?? ;D
Adrian
PS. Very nice bandings on that chert, thank you for the ID.

Wow, as a veteran fossil collector I would not need to wet those fossils before I photogaphed them, I would just drool all over them. What an amazing combination of finds! I would be back at that quarry every day if I had the chance.

Just imagine what's been excavated out of that pit and rolled into road bed... On second thought, don't!
Nice finds.
