Met Steve, daughters Kayla and Salena for breakfast and then picked up doggie Boomer and went for a little rockhounding. Many, many years ago up here, the glaciers melted into rivers and dropped slews of agate and jasper that you can see in lines about 10 feet down in the Earth's crust. So, rockhounding for the good stuff usually happens in eroded areas like hills, streams, lakes and pits where digging has taken place.
Steve's girls have agate goggles because they were kind enough to slip me those beautiful little agates whenever they could.
Angie and Boomer found many ways to keep cool.
Then we went back to Steve's parents' beautiful home for a cold pop.
Well, we have to put more air in our tires when we head back to SD, because this was our haul.
Some beautiful Red Jasper and Jaspellite (Red Jasper and Hematite) in their stunning array of variations.
Chinese Writing Stone (Porphyry) again with lots of variation.
A Buckeye (JK, think it's a red jasper)
Here are some really cool unknowns (Steve might know, and he might have told me, but I was in a rockhounding euphoria and can't remember diddly)
There is some super pretty granite up here, but this one was kinda different.
Okay, I've seen Unakite before, and we were wondering if this is it. It's a little different than what I've seen with the agate running through... Can anyone help with an ID please?
Kayla (BwcaChick) did these stunning wraps for her grandma. The one on the right is a cab by Dan, Highplainsdrifter. I'm so proud of you Girl!
My favorite pic of the day. As Steve, Bill and I chatted on Steve's P's back porch, we watched the girls and Boomski walk back from the river where they were hunting formore agates crayfish.
If you want to see some cabs from material I found up here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=ccabs&thread=38926&page=1
Awesome time with terrific peeps. Thanks friends! Jo
