Ted,
Thank you very much for the help, and it's easy to do. Anything you have will be welcomed, whether local or national. The only prerequisite is that you make sure the photos are as clear as possible and in a good light so the colors are easy to see. Any blurring worsens tenfold when I convert the index to a PDF.
The easiest method is to create a post in the Rock ID section. Post your pictures there in the largest file possible. Make sure they are labeled with their location as close to the source as possible. At least the nearest town would be great, but if you are trying to protect sources, I'd like at least the county. I will drag the photos from the thread and save them to my computer. They'll then be added to the indexes as I update them. I have individual files on my computer for each participant.
I would like to use your name (first last) and you can either post it with the photos or email me. Otherwise I will use your idname from this forum.
I probably told you more than you needed, but I hope this helps. And again, thank you for anything you want to add.
Lowell

Downloaded it and thank you for posting. Haven't had the opportunity to go through the entire thing yet, only a couple of volumes, but I've got a stone that I bought on ebay as I fell in love with the design. I bought it slabbed as "unknown jasper." I'm tumbling some of it in a Lot O right now and working on cabs with it and would really like to know what this stuff is! Here are some photos of the slabs. It takes a porcelean shine at 14000. I'm working it with some Willow Creek in the vibe and the Willow is definitely a softer stone. While workin it I have had some problems with fractures. Best description I can give is that it is brittle with a tendency to crack and chip if worked with too much pressure. Shards are pretty sharply edged. I'm thinkin it might be a variant of British Columbia Ocean Rock, but it seems more agatey than quartzy... Photos! Any help is greatly appreciated! Cathy

There is a new requirement to download the 2nd edition file that hasn't been there before. I am checking on why a person now needs to sign up to download the file.

It appears the former limitation for downloading this file has been removed and you can download it without a problem.
Let me know if you find otherwise.

Lowell, It appears that you still need to sign up in order to download the file. I did sign up using my junk email address and then I could download the file. Tony

Has anybody else tried to download Volume 10B: California Jaspers and Fossil material from the link on the first page of this thread? Or is Kaspersky just really sensitive to something here? Actually, the problem is not when the link itself is clicked, but when you hit the download button. I'll try a couple more of them, and see what happens. Jean

Okay, I was able to download that one, and also tried another one. Did not get the warning message on that one. I'm thinking Kaspersky may be a tad oversensitive, or has something going on with it. It didn't like the URL for whatever reason. I guess better safe than sorry? Jean

Jean,
Thanks for posting your warning - and thanks for posting your follow up. Just to let you know the process the files follow in their creation and posting: The files are created using Pages for Mac. I then convert them into PDF files. I download the files into Media Fire (formerly used File4Share), retrieve the file share link, then post those links here.
Occasionally the file share sites themselves change or have problems - the File4Share site - back in March - changed so that you had to be a member to download files (which I hated - as did everyone else cause my downloads plummeted). They also on occasion went 'down' during maintenance windows. I have only been on Media Fire since June 9th but have had no problems with it, and have found the system extremely easy to use. Maybe they experienced a problem for a while and rectified it. Using other people's systems leaves you at the mercy of their viability. Even though I do these indexes, I should not be considered tech savvy by any means.
I'm glad you finally got through.
Lowell
