New links created and posted using Mediafire. See below.
I did this on another thread but forgot to update the posts here.
This is a listing and linking to the current 2012 versions of the Agate Index. These are the definitive versions at this time. Vol 4 (northern regions) and Vol 5 (southern regions) are being compiled presently.
Note: The Agate Index files apparently can be PREVIEWED on Mediafire presently prior to download. (March 9, 2013).
John has also done an alternative method of accessing the older files which follows my links.

Hey All.....First off I want to give a big thanks to Lowell and Mel for all the Hard work they have put into the Agate Index....As you know there was some issues with the download and it had to be pulled ...I hope they don't mind but I couldn't let it be...I wanted to do what I could to keep it going....
I have done a good bit of testing with the Index...After a few different file share sites I am satisfied with this site....It is called Dropbox...I have added my Index folder to my folder on the site...so if you download, all you are getting is my file from my puter....
The first two are large files so it takes a little while to open...
once open you can either just look at the Index or save it to your computer...Like I said the large files take a little time ...So look around the RTH and see whats happening and go back to it later.....

I will be adding links to the share sites I used to use to provide a wide range of sources for this material. (I won't try to guess as to which method is the preferred one by you - hence the planned options.)

The 2nd volume of the 2nd Edition of the American Agate/Jasper Index has been released.
For those familiar with the 1st editions of this Index, much has changed.
1) The new edition is gathering more states together in each volume. Volume One will cover Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado. The side effect of this effort is that the files are much larger than before. Previously the largest files reached 20 MB. The new volumes will be over double this with page counts into the hundreds.
2) The new edition no longer divides material by state. Instead it gathers all related material in a region together by type for easier reference. For example, all the thundereggs in Volume One will be listed together. Dugway Geodes from Utah will be listed in the same section as Baker Eggs from New Mexico. This will help with identification of material as it means the reader doesn’t need to bounce between states to match a specimen to the photos.
3) There will be a long index at the end of each volume that lists the contents by state and by location. This will help people who are using the index to research the type of material found at a specific location.
4)There will be a 'missing material' list for items not found in the current index. This will be published in the final volume, a 'series index' covering the entire set of indexes along with a pictorial glossary of terms and a listing of reference websites and books.
*******
OVERVIEW:
This project started in February 2010 and since then, with the help of many many people, we've been able to put together a first edition of 11 databases for material across the country that collectively have been downloaded over 2500 times. We are currently working on the 2nd edition.
Please note: These indexes can be shared with friends and clubs for free. There is no cost to pass along these download links to other people who may not know about them.
The American Agate/Jasper Index is designed to be a database of material found in North America. The main goal of this collection is to aid people with identification of specimens as well act as a visual guide to quartz gem materials. Each index will focus on a different region. These are designed to be downloaded for free and are created from photo submissions by rockhounds across North America. Updates will occur periodically as new material is submitted here and via email. (PLEASE submit new material!!!!)
THE OLDER VOLUMES ARE STILL AVAILABLE, BUT WILL BECOME OBSOLETE WHEN THE NEW 2012 INDEXES ARE COMPLETED. THE 2010 VOLUMES ARE PRIMITIVE IN COMPARISON.
The Artists in Agate series is listed at the bottom of this message.

Artists of Agate Portfolios
There is so much great material being put on this site and only so much the Agate/Jasper Database is able to publish; I thought there ought to be a way of gathering together the images of individuals for downloading. I approached three individuals - NorthShoreRocks(Steve Haynes), Bobby1 (Bob Rush), and HighPlainsDrifter (Dan Heuer) about doing portfolios of their work. All three gave me permission to pursue this new project (which actually is less work than the index...)
All three of these people have both wonderful material and excellent photography skills. I hope you enjoy looking at their work. Please tell them what you think.
Lowell
