Hi all. Tony invited me to go to Jade Cove with him and Man, what a day it was. It was a beautiful Calif winter day, not real warm, but quite comfortable. Took about 3 hrs to get there and here's the view as he checked out the area to go diving. So we got the gear and climbed down the cliff. And I mean cliff. It wasn't so bad going down in the morning, but coming back up in the afternoon with the gear and the haul of jade was tricky to say the least. I have a much better aspect now of what he goes through to get this jade. And a much hurting back and legs to prove it! Looking up the cliff used my zoom to try and capture the "path" This was at the end of the day looking down the path. The lady in the pic made it about 20' more and then came back up. Look closely in the center of the pic and you can see Tony near the bottom of the cliff This is where Tony and his friend went out diving for the jade. They found a piece about 200lbs, but decided not to get it-for now These are a couple of pieces they brought up. This one weighed about 70lbs Acouple of the "smaller" ones It was a great day for both of us and it was good to spend some time getting to know one another a little better. Would I do it again? In spite of the soreness, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Tony thinks I ought to get certified so I can dive with him, but I think I'll leave that part to him. Besides, there's a lot good pickin's on the beach. I'll start a new thread with some pics of the Calif coast. Thanks for the great day(and the aches and pains) Tony. Ed

DIving is so much fun and really easy to do. The biggest problem I had during my test was taking my mask off and putting it back on underwater. I could do that but tended to panic a bit clearing it. Of course, when I was underwater NOT in a test situation, I never panicked clearing my mask.
I would love to get back into diving but up here, I'd need a drysuit and those things are damn expensive.

Great professional looking pics Ed. You really have that camera down well. Boy you guys got a really pretty day and the water even looks halfway clear too. Only time I dove there it was murkier than heck. Looks like you made a nice haul too. Hard to beat those wave washed hunks of jade. Pretty even when you just clean em up and let them set! Can't say it looks like fun hauling scuba gear up that path though.....mel

Thanks for sharing both of those posts, Ed. It was nice to view these after such a crummy, rainy day up here in Washington state. I wish you and your camera were going to be on our upcoming field trip!

So freakin cool- Man that path alone was enough to scare me- I love the beach- but hate the water- I don't swim very well and the thought of diving- well lets just say that my wet suit would need a good washing afterward!

Ed, those photos you took are incredible ! You really documented the trip well, your welcome to come anytime & thanks for the help hauling up the gear. Hawk, you learn really quick about getting water out of your mask. Sometimes the surge can fill it with water, its easy to do after awhile LOL !

hehe Tony, like I said, I did fine with it when i wasn't testing. I think I just choked during the test. My instructor worked with me to keep me down with him instead of shooting to the top.
I actually flooded my mask in PV just to see if I could do it. And I did it fine. I love diving. But I need to come up with enough for a drysuit before I get back into it. Because I am NOT using a rental suit that you KNOW someone else peed in, even if the things ARE soaked in bleach between each use.
How cold does the water get down there, Tony? Is it decent wetsuit weather?
