Well I received my valentines gift a day early. A bouquet of flowers and a bag of apache tears that a guy my hubby works with picked up in Arizona. ;D I think he got off real cheap this year! Now I just have to go back through the board and find the post about polishing them. I remember there were some special tips with them. I finally pulled my first load. A batch of amethyst. I'll post a pic as soon as I figure out how to load my webpage onto the server. They didn't turn out too bad. I made one big judgment error though that I will not make again. I pulled the plastic pellets from the load before doing an in the barrel wash. Now I have some stones with marks and dings. So I have to sort out the ones that are marred, buy MORE amethyst (oh darn) and start over. The polish wasn't too bad considering I used aluminum oxide. So I think I'll rerun some back through with cerium. The driveway rock we threw in for filler came out kinda pretty. I have no idea what any of it is. Some looks like quartz but thats about all I know!

he might not have put a lot of thought into those flowers but now a bag of rocks....sounds like true love to me! my hubby will be scrambling around about 4:45 tomorrow trying to think of something. i'm way ahead of him - got 60#'s of rock on the way - so no matter what he does i've got him covered whether he knows it or not! little trick my sister taught me years ago so you're never disappointed on b'days, anniversaries, holidays ;D.

A bouquet of flowers and a bag of rocks! That is too funny. I am just willing to bet that you are just tickled pink and that your non-tumbling friends just don't understand how you can be happy with a bag of rocks for Valentine's Day.
I don't have a Valentine, but I did order 30 lbs. of rock and that will be my Valentine to myself.
My sister always buys herself a gift in case her hubby messes up. She has bought herself diamond earrings for Christmas, a new car for her birthday, new furniture for Valentines. Looks like my brother in law would get a clue and buy her something really nice. I know it would save him money. LOL!

Being allergic to most flowers and they don't last that long I would say the rocks were a good present.

I think the rocks were a great present! As you said, the flowers will die, but the rocks will last forever. And once they are polished, they will be beautiful and that beauty will last forever.
Yep, pretty neat present!

I told my hubby what you all said about the rocks. His response was "I win!". Yep the rocks were a great present. Especially considering that the flowers caused an allergic episode in everyone else in the house except me! The guys my hubby works with have found out that he is into rocks and they have started giving him all sorts. This morning he came home with a small geode one of them found in his back yard. It's perfect and whole and about the size of a baseball. I'm really curious about what is on the inside. Unfortunately I will have to wait until I can afford a saw to cut it. Or I find someone who can do it for me. I'm anxious to see what he brings home next! ;D Otter

Sounds to me like that rock sickness is starting to spread, there is no cure except more rocks
