I went for a nice long motorcycle ride yesterday with a friend. We headed NW towards Wausau, Wi. Our goal was to go see the Dells of the Eau Claire, which is a series of falls and rapids formed by the river. We weren't dressed to hike the trails, but took a look around near the picnic area. Please excuse the quality of the photos, I used my phone to snap these as I forgot my reg. camera. First pic from the outlook The road bridge leading into the park - shoulda headed over there and picked up some rock. A few other shots from down near the falls/rapids On the way up, I noticed a weird sign in a parking lot for a local cafe, so we stopped on the way home and took a closer look. I got a good laugh from this. Too bad they were closed, I would have loved to go inside and ask the story behind the sinage. My new avatar! Me cruisin' down the road. Thanks for looking. Nate

Haha, that's cool. If you use that pic as your avatar, can I use the one before it? LOL, just kidding. Love the falls, wish we had had the time to stop. Cool to see you on your cycle. Look bad to the bone, LOL. Jo

Thaks guys and gals. It was a nice place to go. I told Jennifer we have to take the girls there for a day trip sometime. I guess there's a beach in the park somewhere too. Swimming and a picnic, with some rock collecting thrown in for good measure - now that's a good day too! The rock must be pretty soft, as there were names and dated carved in it by the falls. The earliest date I saw was 1925. I don't know if it would cab very good. I did see a few quartzy veins in it, so looking for a gravel bar up or down river would probably be the best bet.
John - I remembered to take a few pix on the ride. Thanks for the inspiration. There were lots of opportunities I wish I had the camera ready for, but with the phone being in my back pocket, it wasn't happening. Curt - there were more rock creatures by the cafe door that I didn't see til I was rolling out. I'm stopping there again when they're open sometime. May even make a special trip just for it, as I gotta see who's the rock hound.
Jo - I'd be honored if you used my photo, but I think Angie's a tad cuter lol. Bad to the bone? Pfft! Jeff (my riding buddy who took that pic) says we're really hard-core. Ice cream is a must stop on every ride LOL!
Fran - Thanks. I try to hold as steady as I can to take the photos, and the lighting must have been just right. Usually they're not that good.

Nate, did you see the duck boats? As I remember it when I was in high school, the Wisconsin Dells had duck boat rides (the boats that go from the road to the water). Nice pics, thanks for the trip in the "wayback machine" for me.

Nice pics - evidently the rocks are wary of lapidarists up there, and they attack on sight...

Diane, you're thinking of the Wisconsin Dells on the Wisconsin River. Totally different area lol. I have ridden the ducks there though...
Toad, the rocks were all bark and no bite. I got really close to get the pix, and not even a growl came from them lol.
