Howdy folks, Just a pic of the early B'day present I got awhile ago. Been wanting a good dissecting scope for awhile so I can study rocks, insects and such up close. My wife got me this nice Celestron which is absolutely awesome and even better than what I used to have at the AG Dept. Features lighting from above or below and is fantastic for looking at slabs. I wish I could take pics through it because poppy jasper is truly weird when viewed under magnification. The Firefly Jasper I've been slabbing is actually composed of lots of small concentric ringed poppies and the poppy jasper with larger poppies appears more like small concentric chalcedony center rings surrounded by red plumes sprouting from the center which are themselves composed of millions of tinier spheriods. Poppies are definitely more complex than just a series of rings but viewing them through a scope, to me, provides more questions than answers. Dang pretty to look at slabs through the scope anyway.....Mel

What a great gift! That's gonna bring you oodles of enjoyment, Mel. How about some pics looking through the lens of the scope?

C’mon Mel – even old farts gotta learn new tricks! ;D Just needs a little sperimentin, that’s all. Try the camera on macro, maybe with a sleeve (cut down toilet paper tube or ?) from lens to eyepiece to keep out extraneous light. Ps – a younger guy might turn the scope around the other way. Happy birthday.

Rich: *LOL* Man you are such a wiseass! I know it would normally be the other way but I like the light knob right handed, used my old office model this way and the cord don't reach the plug and the scope don't fit on my desk without me running into it if'n I have the eyepieces all sticky outy. Us geezers are practical folks!. Works just the same no matter which way the eyepieces face *L*. And yeah, if I could do it over again, I'd probably get one with the camera attachment behind the twin eyepieces. I might just mess with my Canon and see if I can take macros but probably have no real need to do so..Mel
