This rock came from the Columbia Basin near Wenatchee. The area I found it in looked like it had been "filled in" some time in the past, so it may not be from the immediate vicinity. But the Columbia River is a stone's throw away and has been much dug out, so I suspect it was brought in from there. It has slight translucency--almost looks mossy up to the light but much denser that the moss I usually see. Seems about a Mohs 7. Sorry about the saw marks--I had to rotate to cut it in my trim saw. Outside wet (and oily) [ ][/img] Slab--I just noticed that the oil prevented the water from sticking in some of the areas: [ ][/img] Up to light out of focus--this is a *very* thin slice (the 1/4th" slice has no translucency: [ ][/img]

It is massive quartz , fine grained quartz with mineral inclusions . Agate works though . I like it

Yes, the texture appears similar. In Lincoln County, which is east and north of where I found this rock, I used to find various quartzes with amazing patterns. The one in the photos is more fine grained than the Lincoln County ones, but similar haphazard colors.
