1st time out this year rockhounding and it was 3 weeks ago during a scorching hotttt time of the month. Had to go out since my brother was down for a few weeks from Maryland...and we had a Fantastic time although; did I mention...it was a little warm First of all an introduction to my new rockhounding toy...I spoiled myself just a bit...but I figure he's gonna be a member of my Family for a long time to come!
We hunted the Green River, Utah area and found some great stuff. The coolest thing by far that we found was some Indian Carvings that were 12 miles off the main highway and in about 2 miles from where the dirt road that we were on ended. My brother stumbled on these....took pics and GPS co-ords. Not sure if these have ever been reported..and not sure if I want to.
Within about 20 miles of the same area is a place called Thompson Springs. It has many, many Indian paintings on the cliffs and they range from 1,000 's of years apart. 3 different civilizations congegrated here...and the paintings still stand as a testament of their history.
We also explored the Yellow Cat area. Found lots and lots of wood, barite, and lots of other cool stuff. In this area there are alot of abandoned Uranium mines. Many of them are sealed up with either welded bars or cinder block walls cemented in the openings. However....there are still a few open to explore.
A huge log buried in the Yellow Cat area
Just some scenery shots of the area we hunted. Yep...the truck likes to get out and dirty...I just don't like to clean it up afterwards.
I LOVE to EXPLORE!!!!
Heading down again in September. Hopefully it will be a little cooler.
