With just over a month to go I realized tonight while photographing these that it will take at least a year for them to polish. Slight exaggeration, but they were drying off in the thirty seconds it took me to snap this photo. Taken inside--a little more yellow than they really are. Rocks go into 1000 tomorrow and then into polish. I likely won't even bother to look at them until they have been polishing at least two weeks. [ ][/img] I hope others will share as well. Susan

nice looking shapes & patterns Susan ! i hope that they take a great shine !!
mine were in coarse for a LOOOOONG time . i just move them to 120/220 , five days ago. i usually skip this grit so i should stat 500 grit this evening . i'm getting nervous , as to how well they will polish .
Good luck !!! --paul

Hey, Paul! I did a run in 120/220 as well, which is likewise unusual for me. I also did 60/90 and even 46/70 for what seemed like months. I actually reached a point where I didn't think they were getting any rounder; that the wearing down on the sides was making them more pointed. It may have been my imagination, though.
Thanks for the compliments--and good luck to you as well.
Susan

Pits, and a few I would call craters. I am trying to divine the statement from those that judge: "We wanted to see if you would send in the best patterns despite the pits." -or- "We wanted to see if you would stick with the nonpitted rocks despite the colorful patterns of some of the pitted ones." The pits are a blessing to me right now. At least I know that I don't have to send in *all* with the best patterns; I can keep the ones with pits! I've gotten rather attached to these rocks and want to keep at least a few of the more colorful ones. Looks like I'll have plenty to grind on after the competition is over. Susan

Very nice Susan!!
Ah yes,,,the pits are the pits and I have plenty of them as well!
I ran 60/90 until I ran out again and about a week ago went from a rotary to a vibe with 120/220 which is where the "probelm children" are now,,,,,you know,,,the rocks with all that acne?? LOL
I'm finding that the "acne" is in layers and knowing it's time to move on is the key here but I fear that my most beautiful colored "teens" will not be ready for "Prom Night"! Yes sir,,,,,,it's "Zit City" here folks!!
I just can't stop-um from eatin that darn chocolate!! LOL
Good Luck all,,,

Gotta say I'm impressed with how good your batch looks so far. Every time I've tried that type material I've wound up chucking it on the flower pot rock pile because it was just too frustrating trying to obtain a decent polish.....Mel
