I am collector who did some buy and sell in the late 80s and early 90s. I was also "Peachfront" on eBay with a 100% positive feedback on 775 transactions, mostly rough, but I haven't have time to sell there since before Hurricane Katrina, so my reference is a little old. I still have some good material, that I would like to learn more about and, maybe, I'd be open to some trades once I get comfortable on the site. I am especially interested in sagenite and moss/plume agates. Right now, we can slab, but we can't cut and polish, so it's a step by step process. When I figure out how to photograph my sagenite material, I hope to post pictures of some of the slabs. For curiosity, I have posted some Picture Jasper. Years ago we sold all the slabs in the series except the last one. If anyone knows the locality, please feel free to let me know. I put Deschutes as a guess, but the original piece of rough came to us as part of an estate, and that ole boy didn't label ANYTHING. There are no rocks here, it's mud all the way down, so all of our collection came from trades or buying from estates, twice from a couple of local widows who needed cash but had little good information. South east? How far from Gretna? Had a family plot there off Liberty Bayou, but Katrina wiped it out, along with our property in Gulfshores.... Welcome aboard!!

I live in Mandeville, and our house is about 15 feet above sea level, so we were very fortunate in Katrina, only had some wind damage. Our house was smashed in 2003 by a large oak tree courtesy of Tropical Storm Bill 2003, which did almost all its damage in Mandeville, so we had just finished fixing things up. I did not believe in the hurricane-resistant roofs before Katrina, but my house and the house next to me, which just got its new roof two weeks before Katrina struck, were the only two in my neighborhood that didn't need repairs after Katrina. Knock on wood. We were really, really lucky. I think I would have broke down and cried if I had to get two new roofs in two years, even though a lot of people had much bigger troubles. :-)

Welcome to the site Peachfront, I to am in louisiana and it is great to see more people from here. I live up near Toledo Bend Lake and all we have is petrified wood and the old Louisiana opal mine which is closed down now, but there is still a little floating around. I have a few cabs of it and a couple SMALL chuncks of it myself.
Now as for your slab you have here.. I dont think it is Deschutes but I am not sure I kinda see some patterns that say it could be but it dont really look like it to me .I have a couple slabs of Deschutes and it dont look like that anyway. The picture is a little dark but looks like it could be Souccor Creek or maybe even some Wild Horse. That is just my opinion. Welcome Aboard..

Thanks. No reason it couldn't be Wild Horse as there was some Wild Horse material included also. I will look into it.

Hey Peach! I've been through Mandeville a few times! Husband was born in Baton Rouge and we still have people in Hammond. We're hoping to get back down soon.
I second slabcabbers assesment of your pic. Not Deschutes...probably wild horse...but there's another...Chicken track...and maybe one more it could be. If I think of it...I'll holler!

Welcome to the board and I love to see beautiful slabs! I have no idea what that picture jasper is. The pattern is really fantastic! Maybe if you post it in slabs or rock ID, you will get someone to see it that knows for sure what it is. Fran
