Well, I am going nuts . In Saturdays mail I recieved a card from the P.O. saying that I have a 'heavy' package waiting for me to pick up. I can only guess that it is the sample pack sent from Gerdus in africa! It looks like William and I will be getting our rocks at just about the same time. I sure wish I would have gotten the mail early on saturday. Tomorrow won't come soon enough! This is like x-mas eve...lol. I'll keep you posted, later, Don

That's just it John, it is a surprize package. I left it up to him what he sent. After talking to him in e-mails, he knew what I was looking for. Rock he might have that would be suitable for knapping arrowheads. Even if that doesn't work out, it should be some real nice tumble rock, or also good for cabbing. It should have some Koi jasper in it as I was interested in it to begin with, but everything else will be a surprize. I hate to wish my life away, but this is one long day. It would be nice to speed it up, hehe, later, Don

i'm having sympathy pains for you! i have a surprise package of morrisonite sitting in the hands of friend in idaho plus he's suppose to be getting 20-25 lbs of other assorted rocks but i won't know exactly what he has until he gets here - well hell, i won't even know then - i have no rock identification skills yet ;D. of course he said he can't bring over 2000# because that's all his trailor will haul and he was going to try to make some kind of deal. i think he's kidding me about that but you never know with him. he's leaving idaho next weekend and going to daytona beach to oggle some chicks with his soon to be married son before actually coming here so i ordered 30 lbs from the gemshop to pacify me until he gets here. i already had rocks in line waiting for a tumbling spot.
if they came up with a cure for this illness i would run like the wind. this is too much fun! when i have as many tumblers running as the # of animals i've acquired maybe someone will send the padded truck for me.

Hi all, YES it was the package from Africa. He sent me a beautiful selection of stuff. It was funny, I went in and showed them the card for the box and 3 postal workers looked at me with crazy eyes and said with a strange voice " oh.........THAT......box" hehehe. There are usually more workers in there than that, they must be off with back injuries? I'm not sure if any will work out for knapping after heat treating, but all of it is sweet rock! I'll post pics of it soon in the photo section. This is a bad week for me, 6 out of 7 12hour days, 3 midnights and 3 daylights. To William, I'm glad you rock made it home safe! Congrats!!! After some experimenting, I may offer to buy some of the rough from you to help you recover some of your cost, if that is possible. We'll talk later. Happy rock loving all. Don

Greetings All,
Way to go Don on the South African rough! I'm also quite happy with my purchase from Gerdus, he really did me a great deal. I'm glad to know he's getting business from other board members, hopefully someday soon many rock shops and dealers will learn about rocktumblinghobby.com and participate in some of the discussions. Let me know if you want to do a trade. Oh, and I'll take some pictures this weekend and try to get them posted ASAP, words just don't do the rocks justice.

I ordered 7.5 kg of Ocean jasper and 10 kg of apricot agate from Gerdus about a month ago. Total price: $178.00 I think it will be well worth it though. Expected delievery time is 10 weeks or so. I'll keep you posted.
