Got a some done and want some constructive advice on how they look . Black jade thingy Black jade pebble rounded into a pendent, sort of like the old look of this. Jade stone slice. Face polished, rough left on sides It should look like a tulip but it sort of looks off to me. Feedback appreciated as I'm hoping to improve! Thanks Tim

Wow Tim, I love the one that is suppose to be tulip but it looks like a Calla Lilly. That is just beautiful. The others are very masculine. Great Job! Tanya

Thanks Tanya, ha ha you are right! It's one of those Calla Lilly's, (at least I think that was the picture was I was looking at when I carved it.) Tulips, Lilly it's all stuff I know nothing about.

Yup, definitely a calla lilly. They're all fantastic Tim. I really see no improvements needed. I especially love the first one!

They really look fantastic. I especialy like the first one, its bold shape is so suitable to jade.

somehow "Man-Cave" popped into my head Not sure of the size of the last, but could see it as a fancy spoon of sorts (continuing the caveman-type theme)

I love the unusual shape of the first one and the one you polished the face and left the sides natural. Very organic:) Time to set up shop somewhere so people can purchase your art:)

The black jade thingy is awesome! I have been admiring Tim's work for some time, and decided it was time to own a piece from him when I saw these. I am wearing it right now in fact!
Thanks Tim!

Ha ha, yes man cave would appropriate for where I work. I built myself a little rock shop a month ago, If I clean it (thats a big if) I might post a picture. I sort of think "spoon" with that lilly too. I made a little etsy site Moon Dragon about three weeks ago to sell cabs, plugs and stuff. It's to support my ever growing rock toys. If anyone on here ever sees something they want let me know first and I'll make you a even better deal. No need to worry about stealing my ideas, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Heck if you have questions on how to do anything I've done I'll try to help if I can. I've had to figure out most the carving by myself as the "jade experts" aren't to keen on helping new people.

Hi Tim, I just stumbled on your pics and comments re: new carvings and pendants. thanks for the generous offer to help. My question is: how did you cut or cave what you call "Black Jade Thingy" It looks like a Lochaber battle axe to me. Sure would appreciate directions. I'm just about 40 mi north of you in the Gulf Islands. Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers! Robbiejohn.

Hi RobbieJohn, I wish I was 40 miles south of you ;D. I'm on the other side of the state next to the Idaho boarder. I'd be happy to share how to make it, it's really not that difficult and I already wrote it out for Nate so I can just copy and paste what I sent him! I penciled out the 36 mm oval shape on a 1/2" slab of black jade and penciled the round cuts on the sides, don't cut out the oval preform yet. I cut out the holes on the sides using a 12 mm diamond core drill then cut out the oval cab from the slab (do it that way so you can clamp down the slab when you core drill). I cabbed it front and back like usuall. Then I used my micromotor (super dremmal) with diamond burrs to feather the sides of the holes, I mark the center line in the hole and a line on the cab face to see what to cut out. Then I cut the cord hole with a diamond burrs. I've got sanding burrs that speed up the sanding for the feathered part but you can also use wet dry sandpaper up to 1500 then polish. Polish both sides like normal and use a felt pad on your dremmal to polish the inside feathered part. Took about 2.5 hours total from start to finish. Hope that help. I recently made another one with what I thought was black jade I bought on line. After working it I sort of think it's Absolute Black Jade, not a real jade but very nice material just the same. Tim
