Aah Jo, that was a fantastic trip. I am a softee for zoos. I love the picture of the Hippo with the kids in front (could those be grandchildren.) They make it look even bigger. And that rump shot of the zebra, oh my. You are a wonderful photographer. Keep that camera up and keep sharing. Many thanks, Tanya

Great pics Jo. Second row, right pic reminds me of a neighbor I have, and the gorillas remind me of a couple of relatives. I haven't been to the San Diego zoo since the 80's. It would be interesting to see how much it's changed. Don

Great pictures! I haven't been to this zoo since I was in the Navy in 1961. Probably changed a bit since then. Bob

Thanks for the zoo trip. Glad you got to see the Pandas before they headed for home.

LOL Don!~ Tanya- Nope, not my kids, just thought it was a cute pic.
The zoo is amazing. I loved the aviary room. You go in through an airlock (two sets of doors) so the birdies can't get out and then walk around in their world totally free. They were all so colorful and busy. It was great.
The trails and environments throughout the park are so natural and the animals are so well taken care of and happy. Absolutely the best zoo I have ever visited!

Most of the Pandas in US zoos cost us (zoo attendees, taxpayers) millions of dollars a year in "rent" that we have to pay China for the priveledge of having them here. Bob

That was not a rump shot of a zebra, the stripes were only on the hind end.
San Diego is the most amazing zoo. It's worth seeing just for the amazing flora they bring in - not to mention the animals...

Darn! I knew one of you smarties was gonna make me burn some braincells trying to remember some of those animal names... ;D At the time, I tried to commit them to memory but were gone by the time I posted pics, LOL.
Okay, I just found it, it's called an Okapi and it lives in Africa... the only living relative of the giraffe.
It's true. One thing that amazed me was that many of the plants that were growing in the animal environments were those that are important to them. The zoo park acts as rescue centers for rare and endangered plants, with a huge horticultural department. Other zoos, botanical gardens, universities and scientists go there to do research.
