Howdy folks, Had a free day today while my wife was off to master naturalist school so I went over to my favorite gravel pile for a morning hunt. Got rained on good and soaked to the skin. Looked like a giant mudball when I drove home but I found a few keeper rocks. These pics are the larger stuff. I found a nice little pile of tumble sized stuff too. Thanks for lookin......Mel BrIght colored banded jasper nodule and a mossy agate where the moss is very fine with a cloudy look to it: Main thing I went for was this golden devils toenails to sharpen my saw blade but I also found a big black and white piece that appears agatized: Nice Polish style banded flint. I love to tumble this stuff. Pet wood. I found quite a bit, mainly brown and white but the piece on top is agatized and gorgeous with lots of red inside; Couple of banded agate with quartz. Looks almost travertine like but it's agate And finally, a weird brecciated jasper in cream and red on the left and a wonderful flame agate like blood red moss nodule which I'd say was the best fine of the day.

Mel, I think you did well - found some good stuff and got a free bath to boot! ;D
Man, that flame is really deep red - is it big enuf to cab? I bet it'd make some outstanding cab(s). I also really like that devils toenails. Wish I could find some. It looks like if you had a good-sized piece and face-polished it, it would make a very interesting display piece, and conversation starter. And it conditions the blade as well.

Maaaaaan, Sure wish the gravel pits around here produced stuff like that. I'd sure go out in the rain for a haul like that. Don

Mel, you have some beautiful stones. I love the Pet Wood with the red in it and I dearly love agates. That red one is awesome.

Tom: The red moss/flame agate will slab but probably the slabs will only be one cab wonders up to about 30 X 40's. It's the best loose filament type moss I've found there yet. Most the red is much more compact in nature and runs more toward maroon tones...Mel
