well imine are finally done , actually they finished on 9/18/10 and i packed & sent my 1/2 lb for the contest on monday sept 20th. these were a definte challange . as several other agreed , i had many reoccuring pits . and rocks of varrying hardness. i did manage coming up with the 8 ounces for contest , that is am happy with. yet if they wanted 10 ounces , i would have had to send some sub par rocks . here is the entire finished batch. from this photos , it does not show all of the pits . there were alot . thanks for looking !! --paul i will post my entry rocks in a few mintutes .

That is a really nice batch. Where did you find out about the contest? Karock last year Conrock placed 3rd. so i heard of it then. then 150fromfundy started a post in the contest area . you can still find it on the 1st page in contest area threads . if you want to learn more about it. it was a fun experience as well as a great challenge . i will try again next year . ---paul

Alright, Paul! Looks like you got a real nice shine on them. Thank you for all your comments on mine as well. I'm gonna take more time on next years batch. I learned of this contest from Rock & Gem magazine. Good luck! - Chris.

Hey, Paul, they look great! And coming up with 8 oz. you were satisfied was far better than I could do. I had a few that were pit and crater free, maybe four oz. worth. To make up the 8 oz. I had to send quite a few that were mediocre.
Beautiful job, and good luck to all of us!

They always choose difficult material to see just how good you are. Some things, I will just toss out and start again with other material if it is not cooperating... That is why I have not ever tried it. Too impatient with some materials. When they give me grief, they go in as fillers for other batches. Paul, you have some very nice tumbles here and even if there is pitting, looks like you handled it well and carried off a great shine! Great job! Fran

Good luck, I hope you win! We slabbed a stone that we believe to be a jasper...I'm sorry for the poor photo, I tried to wet it but the cutting oil caused the water to bead up...Maybe you can see what it looks like anyway? Is this also Royal Nevada Jasper? The previous owner passed away and had left behind ZERO information. I'm not interested in tumbling it from the get-go, but I was thinking of making some cab pre-forms and maybe putting the final polish in the tumbler. Good plan or stupid plan? Right now, our workshop is a mess, and we can't do anything except make slabs, but we are frantically trying to clear space so that eventually we can again make some nice gems. Our stone has some healed fractures on it...but I would still like to go "bigger" rather than smaller with cabs or tumbles because of the hint of blue sky through a cave, or at least that's what it looks like to me -- I would like to preserve the "scene."

I'm too inexperienced to know what the stone is but it sure is pretty.. I love that blue sky through the cave image. That would be a beautiful cab.
