I guess I can post pic's of this now that i no longer have it. The day that this arrived, turned me off of Fed-ex. When they delivered this my 10 year old daughter just got home from school. I was about 15 mins behind her. I pull into my driveway and see a 5 gallon bucket sitting on my front steps. I'm thinking what did she drag home now? To my surprise this was inside of the bucket. This is how smart the fed-ex driver was. They let a 10 year old sign for this. And then did not even set it inside the house for her. She could not move it. She being about 75 lbs then and this thing is 78 1/2 lbs troy. I will never use Fed-ex again. I phoned them to complain and told them what they left on my steps. It was like they did not care. So after giving them a few kind words. I phoned the dealer that I purchased it from. Telling them about there preferred carrier, they said they would look into. Two weeks later I got a surprise in the mail. A free Maple. Kudos to the dealer and a bid thumbs down to Fed-ex.

Many years ago my husband took lessons on how to make jewelry from coin silver, whew. That's a lot of work on top of finding and cabbing the stone.
As far as your adventures with FedEx, UPS is really just as bad. It depends on your location. I no longer order expensive stuff to be delivered UPS, just the cheap stuff, so it's less annoying that they just drop off a package and wander off without my signature. No 10 year old is signing for it, I suspect the driver of signing for it himself because they just dump things on the front doorstep, willy nilly. Sometimes I'll even be in the house and find it later, so I know that they just did a dump, didn't even bother to ring the doorbell! When I called to complain a few times they told me it's OK because I have a low crime neighborhood. I guess I'll accept that answer but it stopped being funny about the time their computer mixed up my shipping address with another house down the street. This guy was apparently a contractor. One day, they dropped off so many packages of lighting supplies, in front of my front door, that I could not open and exit the front door. I was obviously home at the time, and if the guy had just rung the doorbell and let me know what was going on, I could have stopped a big mess. Anyway, when I tried to head out for the afternoon, I was not amused to find my passage blocked by a huge stack of UPS parcels that weren't even for me. I called both UPS and the neighbor, and I can't remember who showed up first to cart the stuff away, but eventually I was able to leave my house again. Another time they delivered a CD player (back in the day when a CD player cost more than a pack of chewing gum) to the other address and my neighbor just kinda, sorta forgot to mention it. I did get it...eventually...when I knocked on the door and said, "Did you guys happen to get a package that was supposed to be delivered to [my mailing address]?" "Oh yeah, here it is!" Nowadays, if UPS claims they delivered, and I know they didn't, I go to their house...and vice versa, they come over here and check to see if I've got it. I don't understand how this kind of mix-up can occur, especially repeatedly, over many years. They had it fixed for awhile then it started again after Katrina. I think that house is empty right now, but I haven't ordered anything UPS in a long while, because I'm afraid I would have to chase it down to that doorstep if I did.
I had to order some air tickets from Paris in 2007 and I really held my breath. Fortunately they came DHL.

I have had the same problem with UPS except we live in the country and our mailbox is 700 feet from the house. UPS just puts is in a plastic bag and hangs it on the mail box. We can't see it from the house. I only use USPS for those same reasons. They bring it back to my house and our special mailman, bless him, knows where we have a place for him to leave packages safely when we are not home. I am so glad this FED EX shipment was safe but you are right, they don't really care.

Wow that a big 'un! When survival times come, you're gonna have to do a lot of sawing to get that into little bits for trade *W*.....Mel

Toad, I was planning on keeping it as part of a collection. I thought it was a cool piece. Only seen them in movies. No you can not carry one in each hand like they do in Hollywood. It takes 2 and a good back. ;D Mel, some fool traded me 1 for 1 for maple rounds. No saw needed. The Fed-ex guy did let my daughter sign for it. And I posted this in the wrong place I thought I put it in General.
