Tom, I did not finish them separately, excepting until I reached the cab's shape you see in the 4th picture. After that I glued the cab to the handle and it exceeded the metal to about half milimeter or even one milimeter. So I went on the diamond pads with the whole thing (metal+cab) and sanded it with 400, 800 and 1500 grits, getting pretty much of what you see. Then a polishing paste for metals restored the shine on the steel and dulled the cab, then I went again on the 1500 diamond pad to restore the shine of the cab, then cut a duct tape piece and covered the polished cab, then re-finished the polish of the steel. Now you get the whole picture. Oh, then I removed the duct tape of the cab, of course ;D LOL, Paul, you're way above an apprentice, you could be a co-worker of mine Adrian

Wow Adrian, that is so beautiful, your mom is one lucky woman both to have a son like you and to be getting that cane.

Hi again friends, I finished it! I found a guy who does wood turning and he made the stick out of oak wood. Then I attached the handle to its upper end and also a stainless steel lower end to protect it. The very end is a small bit of rubber for the grip. I put three layers of laquer on the stick, so it got a bit darker than the natural color of the oak. Here are some pictures: Two pics from above, one focused on the handle... ... and the other one on the stick: If you ask me, I would had preferred another rock, something like a tiger eye or such instead of that jade, but this was my mom's preference. Anyway, her decision was good bearing in mind the toughness of the jade. A zoom of the lower end: I also tested it, it has a very comfortable grip and seems reliable. This is it, now all I have to do is wait until the lacquer cures completely (it still smells) and to give it to my mom. Thank you everyone for looking and for the nice and encouragement words throughout all this work. Adrian

The green jade really sets off the stainless and oak. What a beautiful creation.
