I bought a tumbler just because I thought it was a neat thing to do, my wife asked a question....what are you going to do with all those rocks after you have polished them ?? A most sensible question that I really couldn't answer. I understand about folks who do cabbing..they produce more jewelry like finished product...but for folks like me ...I want to know what you guys do with your rocks and gems ?? Do you have a source or a plan for the finished product??
Thanks Dwight P

Hi, I am a jeweler. I have a shop in Southwest Fl. I tumble for a variety of reasons. First and foremost I love the heart of the stone, they in their own way speak to me. Second I make a living out of turning natures art into a combination of wire wrapped art and wearable art. I have a combination of polished stones available to view, and wire patterns to choose from. I "set" these stones in rings, or pendants, or just sell the individual stones, or sometimes give them to interested children, or grownups. I also shape the finished stones to fit commercial settings, or facet once I see the pattern. I found on a beach one day when I was very young a rock. This rock was smooth and had one developed crystal in a void. I also was given an agate from an uncle who was a drunk and gave it to me to shut me up. I treasured the lines and shape for years. I lost both stones years later but to this day I still see them. I tumble my stones to be different, unique, and work with what is semi-natural to combine this with something that can be worn for a lifetime. It is more work than I can realize with monetary profit however it opens doors to friendships and perspectives that cannot be described. I also love each and every stone, and the process it requires. If you send me an e-mail, I will return with my signature line having an html that shows some of my wire work.

Hi Dwight and wife, In addition to jewelry, polished rocks can be used as decorations, in a wide-mouthed glass vase or in a wooden bowl on a coffee table. They can also be used in those small indoor waterfalls, the ones you tumble yourself look much better than the stones supplied with the waterfall. They are a great addition to a fish tank or terrerium, as a "mulch" layer on top of the dirt in potted plants, or in a vase with flowers. I've also seen them used in home-made candles and the stepping stones that are popular right now (most craft stores have kits).

Hi Ya,,
Well here are a couple of things i have done with those polished rocks, I have drilled holes in them and strung them up with spaces inbetween rocks and draped them above a window, and some spots i have a few rocks hanging down from the main line , the rocks that let light through them look awesome,, and i have taken some rocks w/holes and ran stiff but no too still through them and made rock people one rock for head, one for body and then little ones for arms and legs, then take wire and wrap it around pencil or something to make curlys for their hair, and one more glue them to ugly picture frame or around an old ugly garage clock .. very cool ,, they make great cabinet handles too ... if big enough,,, hope this gave you some ideas... good luck ;D

Going to be using mine for a kitchen backsplash. We are going to use the thinset for smooth marble to adhere them to the wall and then use latex grout.
