I haven't been wrapping in a while but I did do two recently, well, sort of two. One is a work in progress that I'd like to get some opinions/ideas on. I used round craft wire for the trial run and it's rough but you get the idea. It is going to be a pin hopefully when I get it done. Here is the rough "draft" Snowflake Obsidian tumbled stone that I got from Montanamuskrat. The wrap: Biggs Jasper in vintage bronze craft wire I got some square and half round bronze craft wire and it seemed to go with this cab so I tried it out. What do you think? Thanks for looking and comments appreciated. Diane

Love both of the stones. Really like the bronze wrap.

OK, since you asked - that snowflake obsidian is beautiful! I love those big flakes on it. The wrap you are trying to do is a wonderful idea but I am not so sure it's right for that stone. I kept seeing the beauty of the stone but the wire kept trying to draw my eyes away from it. That is just how it hit me. What wire would you use for final run? A finer gauge? Perhaps it's the background that you used to take the picture. I was looking at some obsidian like that on ebay & tried to bid on it - I lost Going to try to bid on some more. It is really beautiful as a cab. The biggs looks wonderful!

I think that the bronze looks great, and very nice job on the wire. I actually like the first one, it reminds me of a flower patch surrounded by vines, with a sorta "antique" look. Very cool

Those are both great! I have to admit, I did loose the first cab in the picture but I realize it is the background. If you place that one on a black piece of cloth, it will change the whole look and be a real eye popper! That snowflake is about the best pattern I have ever seen in that stone and I agree with Randy, it has an antique look to it! That Biggs has a great picture and you framed it really well! Keep up the wrapping! You are getting more done than I have been able to do! Fran

Thanks for the comments. Since you mentioned it, Donnie and Fran, you are both right, that background does not work with that piece. I'll have to take a pic of the final piece on a different background. I'm hoping to use 22ga sterling for the final version Donnie so it will be finer than the 20ga craft wire. I actually got that snowflake obsidian from Montanamuskrat when I met him this summer. It was one of his tumbled stones so not really a cab but the shape and the fact that it was flat seemed like it would really work well for a pin.

Yes, that will make an really nice pin. I like the wrap style, it will be awesome when you redo it. I alao really like that scene in the bronze one. It has a very distinct mountain in the background and a valley in the foreground. When you take photos of the finished pin, could you please take a photo of the back, so I can see how you attached the pin? I have been thinking of doing some pins but not sure how to attach it.

Yes, please, a picture when you are done!! I do love the antique look of it & with the finer wire on a black back ground should look really awesome!

Haven't worked on it again but will be sure and post pictures of finished project when I get it done (along with the back for Amy's benefit ;-) ) By the way, Amy, I'm just planning on gluing a pin finding to the back with epoxy. Don't know if that's how it's supposed to be done but I'm thinking it will work.
