copper or brass 22 gage square and 21 or 22 gage half round is really good practice wire
I get mine from brandywine.com and wigjig.com, Rio Grande has bulk square in both brass and copper but no half round. This last order I bought the bulk 22 gage square from Rio Grande and the half round from the other places

You could try Parawire. You can get it in 21 gage square and half round. They have silver and gold colored copper in that size as well.

You might also check with your local bead store, I've found square and 1/2 round craft wire made by Beadsmith but I think they only sell to retail stores. Copper and brass are also good and as Frog said, you can order that from Brandywine www.brandywinejewelrysupply.com/

I saw the Beadsmith in a MIchael's but they only had one size in square. I really like to use 22 ga in most projects and 24 ga on small stones.....and guess what, those only seem to come in silver and gold! AAAAAACK! I usually order my craft wire from Parawire and silver from MonsterSlayer. I recently got some copper square in 3 different sizes and some half round also (came in only 1 size) and some stainless steel square and half round from Amazon.
