... for me anyway. I cut a couple of Navette shaped cabs, made one in my normal style, and experimented on the other. This wrap is my typical style. Brazil Agate by Mystic Koi, on Flickr One this next one, I did not pull all the wires up to the top. Instead, I pulled two wires out just after the middle wrap, and then curled them over. This left only two wires each side further up. I was trying for a clean and simple look, but am not really happy with the final outcome. I think it looks too plain? And even through the stone is the same exact size as the one above, it looks unbalanced. Hmmm... perhaps I'll try it again using a smaller stone??? Royal Sahara Jasper by Mystic Koi, on Flickr Bill

Bill, someone said on here the other day; we are our own worst critics and that is probably true, but what what I've learned is people don't always like what we like and vice/versa. That first piece(wrap & stone) are just killer!! The second one, there is not a thing wrong with it. I like your experiment and the piece looks to me, symetrical and balanced. Bill, Good job! If they are not spoken for and you want to sell them, send me a PM

I don't think the second looks unbalanced at all. We all develop our own styles and I don't think there's any "right" or "wrong" way about them. The main thing IMO is to let the stones do the talking

That first one is very elegant looking. The second one is nicly done, it just looks not so fancy. It isn't such an elegant stone either so it is better this way. I love what you did with the side swirls. I know what you mean about it looking unbalanced. Nothing wrong with it. Some people like it better more plain. You are probably used to it with more or larger swirls. Perhaps one or 2 swirls at the top would balance it out.
I also like the diamond shape in the bail.

The second one looks great, but the first one is perfect for the stone and I really like the style as well

Bill,
Your work is awesome! That first one is fantastic! The 2nd looks great too but not as fancy. But I would not call it plain.

I like 'em both. I think it's important to develop several different styles. Not everyone likes the same stuff.

Now that I take a second look, both wraps are perfect for the stone, except that I'd like to mention one thing....... On the second one, the placement wires (that hold the stone in place) might be bent too far over the stone. Take a look at my "Regurgitated turquoise" post a couple threads down from this one and you'll see what I'm talking about. Your stones are beautiful and you want to show off as much of them as possible. You'd be surprised at how little it takes to hold the stone tightly in place. (just a thought) Besides that, the wrap is perfect as well as the symmetry. Both look awesome. Post more!!

Ahhh... thanks Randy! I see that now. The "hold 'em" wires on your turquoise is really close to the edge. Looks fantastic! I'll work that tip into my next experiment.

I think the wraps are very nice. Perfectly symmetrical too. I wonder if gold wire would blend in better though? Just a thought.

I agree with Nate on the second wrap. The first stop is an eye stopper while the second stone is very calm and peaceful. The color in the second stone would be great in gold or bronze and would really bring the stone colors out. I love the design in the second one as I do like the simple wraps and let the stone do the talking and it is a wonderful stone. The first is beautiful as well. You do great work.

I love your "KOI" looking stone in the first wrap and the wrap really accentuates it! The second is a beautiful picture stone and that wrap shows it off. I think you have done a wonderful job on both! Fran

I do like the second one, but I also agree with Randy. Really interesting stone, show as much as possible..... usually.... That first wrap is freaking awesome! The cab is really sweet, but it dosen't matter that the wires run right over the front of it because it looks just perfect. Nice work. Oh, and I also like the little diamond you make with the bail wires. Nifty Chris

I'm going to be the evil one. The first cab is absolutely gorgeous and it is covered in silver. The second is a great cab and not so covered but I would prefer to see the swirls hold the cab in instead of wire coming across it. I like a little metal and a whole lot of rock. The workmanship of your wraps is awesome. Fortunately for wire wrappers I'm a minority and jewelry people usually like bling. Curt Curt
