the twelve pound barrel has the old white lid that my rocks made a hole in. i had that same problem with a 3# barrel and i ordered new lids from 'therockshed'. they were black plastic and i have had no problems with them but shawn at the rock shop said he didn't have anything other than the white ones. so got my router out and with a couple of clamps clamped the old lid to a small sheet of plexiglass. then used the router with the proper bit to make a new lid for the 12# tumbler. i slipped on the first try and succeeded on the second try to make a new lid. it is working fantastic and doesn't appear to be wearing at all and i can see the level of the liquid in the tumbler now... hope that helps and will volunteer to make another if someone needs one to replace the original. charlie

another great use for duct tape ! when my lids started to wear thin . i used 4 strips of duct tape a + then an X .. i have streched out the life of lids up to 8 months ...... literally having lids that worked great . even though they had a 3-4 inch diameter whole in center of lid . covered with duct tape . sometimes , i had to add another layer . you can see the movement of the rocks bumping the tape . but, it works .
your idea is great , too !! i'm a Plugger , i like ways to make things last . --paul
