Have acquired a Lortone 3A tumbler from a friend. Does this unit have a history of using belts? I presently don't have any spares but am going to get one. Should a person carry more than one on hand? Any other parts that wear out quickly or unexpectedly? Thanks much!

Also....is the belt something that I can size up at a hardware store or is it available only from Lortone? Thanks

Welcome!Almost all tumblers have a ' history' of belt wear, but being run 24/7 for a month at a time, it's expected. Keep two spares. I haven't found a hardware store yet that carries these belts The bushings/bearings need to be replaced if they're not cleaned/oiled regularly too, but they're cheap enough. Dr Joe .

Lortone has more of a problem with stretching than anything. Every used one I get "not working" has a stretched belt. I replace them with Thumler's belts (Model 401 I think). They are the clear tough belts. I would probably keep at least one spare belt and a set of shaft bushings on hand.

Shawn at The Rock Shed ( therockshed.com/index.html ) carries spares for many models of both Lortone and Thumlers tumblers - belts, bushings, axles, barrels, barrel lids, you name it. Give him a try. Tom
