Looking good so far. Are the river rocks from the Santa Clara River bed right in back of Fillmore? Funny but I lived three houses away from the Ventura River bed in Ojai and never in 30 years picked up a single stone to try and tumble *L* I did find some awesome stuff on the rocky beaches in back of the Ventura fairgrounds and just north of the Ventura river mouth though....Mel

Thanks Sabre!!!! I am so excited about seeing them when they are completely done. When I heard the words river rock .... I used to think boorrrrrring .... and now ... I cannot stand it ... the wait is killing me. OMG!! Makes me excited....
These beauties I got from Jo .... when I met up with her and Bill in Acton, she spoiled me rotten and lavishly with goodies ... river rocks (two huge shopping bags full of them), wire, and some much needed one on one with a master wrapper (sorry Randy ... you are still the Buddha of wrappers). Not to mention I got to meet Bill ... what an amazing guy and I got to finally see and meet Angelina Nugget ... the most precious pooch in the world. Sorry ... I digress ...
But now that I know river rocks have stories to tell ... I will try to get out and about on the river. Beaches south of the Fairgrounds??? I have never been out there. Now I need to go there .... where almost exactly is it and I will make it number one on my list.
Thanks Again

Just to interject here... these are a combination of WA state and Oregon beach stones. Point Brown, WA collection spot and South Beach SP, OR (south of the jetty) to be exact. But if Fillmore has beach stones, Jules you gotta go check it out! Beach stones are technically river rock, aren't they? Julie these are lookin good Girl! I'm psyched to see how they turn out. The cabs look like they'll do just fine. Use good cushion just in case the beach stones try to kick sand in their face. Jo

Julie: The best rocks are found on any of the rocky beaches from directly behind the fairgrounds where the dudes surf, clear up the coast up to Gaviota. One of my favorites is the beach just north of the Ventura river mouth and if you park outside in the parking lot and walk in, there is no fee in this off season. During low tides and winter storms you'll find all kinds of rock on the gravel bars. All you have to do is watch for color to find lots of stone canyon type brecciated jasper and other colorful Franciscan Formation cherts, even a little poppy jasper further north towards Gaviota. Plus, if you look close there's a whole lot of whalebone on all these beaches and it's agatized so will take a good polish. I've even got whole vertebrae I've found out there but it's fairly hard to spot. Also a little agate with marcasite, jade and other agate. Another cool place for agate is Kanan Road ( plume and sagenite) and the hills on the western outskirts of Moorppark if you can get access. Lots of agate nodules at the base of those hills. ( I occasionally got in there when I worked at the Ag dept.) Also Oak Grove County Park at Camarillo at the base of the Conejo Grade ( sagenite and pet wood). All those volcanic hills around Conejo Grade and in back of Thousand Oaks have the potential for agate. Another good area is the west side of the road out near Cuyama Valley ( agate, jasper and wood) but again, access can be a problem. as the best areas are on private land outside the National Forest. And of course, as you go up towards Nipomo, all kinds of stuff in the creeks and fields around Nipomo ..Mel

Aren't those river and beach rocks fun? There's always such a wild variety of colors and patterns, you never get tired of looking at them!
