Here are two intarsia coasters I finished a couple of months ago as part of a display I had in our local rock show. This one reminds me of Mt. St. Helens erupting, with the North face blown off. This is from one slab of picture jasper, except for the frame. For size comparison. Sorry about the glare: Here's a sloop in green water (like I saw around the Great Barrier Reef during a vacation): For size comparison & a little better lighting: Thanks for looking. Garry

What perfect joints! Amazing work! While the seccond one envolves a tremendous amount of work, I am partial to the stunning natural scene in the first one.
The frames are joining perfectly all around, that is fantastic! How do you achieve such perfection? That is if you don't have to kill me after you tell me, of course. ;D
Both of them are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the pleasant comments.
Adrian, you asked how I did the joints: I set up a single diamond saw blade on an old 1/4 hp motor shaft and used that for a grinder (my diamond Galaxy wheels were too big in diameter), then sanded the joints on a flex shaft tool (Foredom) before gluing. It was time consuming, but unless I can figure how to bend that rock frame around the coaster it is the only way I could do it. One of the diamond wire saws would have saved me a lot of time and material, but I don't have one of those. Garry

Bob, Yes I do use them as coasters. My coffee cup is setting on top of Mt. St. Helens right now. Garry
