Very very cool. Nay, I say, awesome! Good job.
Best I've done is building a potato cannon out of PVC/ABS with a computer fan at the bottom to swirl the fuel/air mix and a stun-gun for the ignition. Shoots a tater about a thousand feet if you get the fuel mixture right.

Awesome work! I remember when I was a kid, the neighbor kid had this magnificent scale model replica of a twenty mule team wagon. We two brain trusts decided to build a big pipe cannon and mount it on the very expensive wooden wagon. Loaded that sucker up with a m-80 firecracker and a one inch ball bearing. Fired at at a target on the back fence. Blew a big hole and knocked a board clean off the fence and holed the neighbors barn in the farmyard behind the houses. Reduced the fancy wagon ( that it turned out was much loved by the neighbor kid's pop) to kindling and got us both in a pile of trouble but lord that was fun! *L*. I love things that go boom!.....Mel

That's cool - The last rock collection I bought there was two of those in there. One complete and the other parts. Never have tried to fire it though!
Nice work!

Haha! I like it! Just have to show this to my "girls" to see the "options" ;D
Now build more of them and then build an old battle-ship model to put them on.

A few years ago I lit some fire crackers about a week before the 4th and a jerk that lived two blocks away came speeding up to my house slammed on the brakes and jumped out screaming at me. To get even my friend brought over a cannon like this one on the 4th and we fired it every 30 minutes or so. The jerk didn't do anything about it but all the other neighbors were mad. That was a lot of fun.

hahaha@mel...thats funny ;D...i machined it from solid brass...the barrel is 3 1/2" at the largest diameter...and 12" long..the barrel weighs 30 lbs by itself...it has a .50 cal bore...i would consider building a ship...but the cannon is just to dang heavy...would have to build a big ship ;D.
the gun powder is loaded in the barrel from the end...not from the rear...its packed with about 400-600 grain of black powder...then packed with a paper filled sabot...thats hammered in with a rod....then more paper...then really hammered in with the rod...fuse loaded in top side...fuse lit...then...BANG.
when i made this...i actually didnt drill the fuse hole into the .50 cal bore...i stopped 1/16 short....and gave the drill bit to someone else outside the shop to finish drilling by hand....without drilling into the actual bore...i only made a replica cannon ;D it couldnt be fired ;D
i also only made the .50 cal bore only about 4 1/2" inches deep on purpose...this way they could only have so much room for gunpowder and the sabot...i know guys like me....if it will make a bigger bang....we will try to load more powder ;D...kev.
