We've got a heck of a blizzard going on here right now. The girls are off from school (can you shout SNOW DAY with us? ;D), so we're just hanging out at home. I decided it was a good time to wrap the 2 obsidian cab I cut last night. First I wanted to try the prong style wrap Meta99 posted from her 1st cab. I like the minimalist look of this wrap, but I think I need to use a heavier gauge of wire for this style. It feels a tad flimsy. Then I was inspired by Abigail to try something different. It's only copper wire and relatively inexpensive, so what the heck. I think the bail needs to be a little more substantial on this one (maybe I'm just used to seeing 2 or more loops in the bail), but like how the wrap turned out. Thanks for looking. Nate

Awesome... I really like those! Any chance of posting the back side so I can umm... errr... plagiarize the style? :-)

Wow just stunnng. I also tried that style and I too need a harder wire I think. I swirlled the ends to grasp it better.

Nice job on both, especially the first one. Can't think of a better way to spend a snow day. Garry

Thanks everyone. ;D Here's the back of prong wrap. Also a shameless copy of the one Meta99 posted. Please disregard the chip on the edge of the cab I don't have a picture of the back of the other one. It looks almost the same as the front. I just used one wire and spun it around the cab. Thanks again! Nate

Yea, I like that prong style wrap. I think it should also be strong wire, I'm thinking probably about 18 ga, half hard should work nicely. You did it very well. I like your second wrap there also. Smooth.

Oh Nate! It really is Franko's wrap...I wish I could claim credit...I just showed it to the board. I love 'simple' and I love rocks...in their purist form (hence my love of drusy and exposed crystal vugs) I think the wire he used must be at least half hard. I tried to duplicate it in some brass square wire I had to try wire wrapping and it is really stiff and it doesn't look as nice. His bail is tight against the top so it acts as the top prong, which I think matters more for an oval or round cab. Plus he only used one continuous piece of wire for the vertical element as the lower end acts as the bottom prong. I also appreciate the chip, as I was beginning to think we had to have perfect cabs before we could post pictures...thus my hesitancy to post on the board. Sue

Okay, now that's what I like in a wrap! Well done!

Thanks y'all!
Mike, I used 22 ga half hard, so 20 might even be enough. Maybe a longer binding wrap on the back so the prongs are shorter would stiffen it up too.
Sue, I don't sell any of my work yet, (Still tossing the idea around, it's a personal battle lol) so I'm not afraid to use a cab that's not "perfect". I was hoping a larger than normal bevel on the edge would grind the chip out, but it was just a bit too deep. The edges aren't sharp, so I left it alone.
