I am so glad to have found this website. I am new to the hobby....so new that I have a tumbler on order and no experience! I have always had an interest in rocks and tumbling and having just retired I now have the time (and no more excuses) to pursue the hobby. I am really enjoying reading the many posts. I live in Visalia, which is in the Central Valley of California. Trying to decide what to tumble first and open to suggestions of course. Sending you all good wishes. Ray

Welcome to the board. There are many of us on here with extra time on their hands. I aint retired yet, but have had plenty of time due to the economy. What size tumbler you getting? If you wanted to sample different stones, the Rock Shed would be a good choice. Of course if you got good local rocks,it would be better. Then when you get several tumblers and saws, you can order from a lot of vendors on here.Did anyone tell you this is addicting? ;D

Welcome aboard Ray, and welcome to the rock addicts club. lol. I grew up in Riverside, a few miles south of you. Just about anywhere in the deserts you can find material suitable for cutting or tumbling. If there are any dry washes near you, you can start looking there. We have several members who live in California. You can probably hook up with some of them for some serious rock hunting. Don

Thank you. I bought the Lortone QT66. I was worried about buying a tumbler that was too small and then needing to buy a different one in a short amount of time. I hope that was a good choice. Thanks for the tip about the Rock Shed. I will Google the name to see if I can find their store. Again, thanks. Ray
