Hi all from mp166 London UK
Fairly new to tumbling (6 months) and have a question
I'm running a beech 3lb tumbler with 1.5lb plastic barrels, outside in a greenhouse. During winter I run two barrels at once, but it can be very noisy, and as I live in a very urban area I'm going to be limited to running one barrel in summer when neighbors have doors windows etc open. I'm sure rubber barrels will help this, but my question is will rubber barrels run on my machine. I'll try to post a pic of the machine tomorrow when its light and i can take a pic.
Thanks in advance.

MP, it would help if you can give us the measurements of your barrels. There's a good chance that rubber replacements can be found.

If you can't find rubber barrels perhaps you can line your plastic barrels with some innertube material or ather type of rubber. Should quite them down enough. And welcome to the board

If the configuration of the machine allows, build an insulated box over the barrel part of the tumbler, but DO NOT encase the motor, it will likely burn the motor up if it can't "breathe". 2" thick styrofoam panel material works well and is easy to do.

Hi folks and thank you for the quick replies. Busy day today, but I'll post pics sizes etc tomorrow. Like the idea of inner tube material inside the barrels, worth a trip to my local tyre supplier for free material, don't think styrene box idea will work as motor is below rollers so no way to vent. Special hello to Yorkshire Jack, nice to know not the only brit on board Regards MP

Thanks for putting the link up Jack, those are nice looking units; I like compact. Not intending to over-push the little house over the barrel idea, just tossing things out. Is there enough room between the top of the motor case and under the rollers to slip a piece of sheetmetal or plastic, letting it stick out enough to support a sound deadening cover? Could even be attached under the screws showing in the pics. Granted, free tube mtl. is a good way to go too. Hate to see you have to cut your capacity in half to appease the neighbors.

As for neighbours, we have to accept in london there is 10,000 people per square inch, the joys of city dwelling (but the pubs and resturants are good) LOL. Thanks MP

Hi all
Sorry while getting back, but eye infection has kept me low this week.
Have attached pic but think it might be over-sized and not allowed (and cameras battery died)
The size of my current plastic barrels is 4.5'' diameter by 3'' deep.
Also checked machine and think it will take a platform to stand styrene box on, a few little projects to try as the weather improves.
Thanks once again everyone.
