Jo, no you don't. There is NOTHING there that doesn't stick you. I don't know why anyone would live there. Brown and dry and thorns and stickers and cactus's everywhere. Still digging them out. Hee hee. That was a fake smile just for the camera. Ha ha

Ken, it looks like you had a great time in spite of the stickers. That javelina looks an aweful lot like a wild boar. Are they dangerous like a boar?

The Javelina don't really mess with you, they usually run away unless you really mess with them.

Scenery Nate? It is decieving. Only green is pinon pines. Everything else is dry and bare. No nurishment for the cows. so dry they are eating the prickly pears cactus by knocking off the petals to get to the trunk and eating it for nourishment. They get stickers in their tongues and get wood mouth because it swells up. Wouldn't live there for love or money. Desolate country. Won't go back. Stillwell Ranch is a joke. No agates to speak of. Been picked over pretty good. Had to go into 4WD and go straight up a hill and over the next to get to a place most couldn't go. Ended up with 10 lbs. of 'fair' agate. One is opalized and they have never seen any like it before. Was following the path that the electric line crews made over the hills. Could tell that not many had been there. Would have went farther, but Donna, Jeri and Mark 'chickened' out on me. Donna wouldn't even ride up or down the hills with me. She walked and Jeri wouldn't drive her truck up the hill. Ken

P.S. We went to a place on Woodward that hasn't been picked over for the bisquits, also. Got 2- 5 gal. buckets of agates and bisquits. Mark found a hugh one, about 6" X 5".

*LOL* Now Ken, Woodward is really quite scenic and the wildlife is fantastic. You just gotta remember that old Texas saying, " If it don't bite, or sting, it has thorns!" Two five gallon buckets is a huge score for Woodward, even for the old days. Can't wait to see more pics....Mel

The people at stillwell were very nice to us, they had very nice showers and bathrooms, but lots of campers using showers. Nan who owns Stillwell when we brought rocks in would tell us honor system and acted like she hated to charge us 50 cents a pound. The rocks were probably there we just didn't know what to look for or where to go. Woodward had boyscouts camping and it was hard to just get your turn for the bathroom before you peed your pants. Buddy the dog stayed with the campers and kept the wild pigs away from us. Jan Woodward was glad to see the RTH people there, she had a lot of friends coming in to help her run everything. I know she had a great shock with Tray passing in the same week they found he had cancer. Jeri and Mark were great in guiding us on Woodward Ranch and showing us what we were looking for, two more great people from RTH. We also had the pleasure to spend some time with Susan and husband, we didn't get to rockhounding with Susan and learn from her, but spent some time visiting. Susan gave me two great Woodward cabs she had made, will post pictures later. RTH has some wonderful people !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Donna

Sounds like they're needing rain down South. This time of year it's normally greening up there (what greening up it does), but guessing it wasn't a wet winter. It is dry there, but I found it very relaxing and peaceful when we were all there so many years ago...
Donna - RTH has some of teh best people I've met, and I'm glad to have known them!

My understanding is that they are about 7 years into a drought, which is why it's so dry.

Hmm - was about 5 years ago we went first, right? It had been a really wet winter that year, but really wet doesn't always make up for lack of rain at other times of the year. Could very well have been in the beginning stages of drought.

Stillwell Ranch... Jeri wouldn't drive her truck up the hill. Uh, :nono: when I saw Donna get out and start hunting in the gully, I figured you were turning around. Couldn't see the sense in wasting my gas to go up the hill just to turn around. Now, if I'd known why Donna got out, I'd been up that hill in a heartbeat! ;D Off to look at more of your pics. Later, jeri
