How do you tell if your grit is used up?
I have the first step of 2lbs of rock in a 3lb tumbler. It was running for a day and I checked it. There was rock and tan/brown water. I poked around a bit and didn't feel much grit but I'm not sure what I'm looking for when there's just 4TBL of grit in a 1qt barrel. I threw in another couple teaspoons for good measure and closed it up and started it again.

four teaspoons of grit should be good for about seven days. i would just leave it for another week. then recharge with four more teaspoons. then leave it for another 7 days. depending on what your tumbling, you may have to keep repeating this step until your rocks have a smooth shape.

4 tbsp will usually last me 2 weeks in a 3 lber. I checked my current runn after 10 days and there was still some grit remaining. It is pretty easy to see as it will all sink to the bottom so if you dump off the slurry (brown water) there should be some shiney grains in the bottom of the bucket. That's your grit
