Hello. Today I tried to set up my rock tumbler just to find out that it will not work! Or rather it will work but not at it's rated It is a www.ukge.co.uk/UK/product.asp?numPageStartPosition=1&P_ID=5113&strPageHistory=&strKeywords=&strSearchCriteria=&PT_ID=382It is rated for 6 lbs and has 1x 3 lb barrel and 2x 1.5 lb barrels. Even though I have weighted the barrels to make sure they are within their specification the machine just wont work. It seems to act like it is overloaded if I use all 3 barrels at once even though the total weight is less than 6 lbs. It seems to be able to handle one 1.5 lbs barrel and the 3 lbs one. I followed the instructions in the booklet that came with it and even tried to remove a few stones to make it lighter. According to the manual the tumbler was oiled before it left the factory so I doubt that would help much. At first I filled the barrels up to three quarters with rocks and barely covered them with water, but since the machine would not work I decided to remove some rocks so now it is somewhere between 1/2 to 2/3 full. I really don't know what else I can do. I thought I should check here to see if there is any mistake I might have made. It might have to do with the size of the rocks? Or lack of pebbles? Almost all of the rocks are bigger than 1 inch in diameter. EDIT: Seems to run fine now.

Hey there.Welcome to the site. It sounds to me that the belt may be a little too loose to handle the full load.Do you have room for tightening it a little? Try that

If the motor is spinning but the belt is slipping then tighten the belt. If the motor is not spinning then try loosening it a bit. Also. Check for oil on the pullies and the belt. Also try putting the barrels on the machine after it is running

Yes. Like said above, check the drive train. If belt is turning, is driven pulley turning? if not, tighten that pulley and/or check that the sleves or bearings are not gunked. IF belt is not turning, but drive pulley is, adjust tightness and/or appy belt sticky product, or replace belt. If drive pulley i not turning, check if loose on motor shaft. If motor shaft is not turning, motor may be going bad, but could still be gunk in roller sleeves/bearings.
Just trace it back.

I just went to check on the tumbler and it had stopped even though it only ran with 4.5 lbs load. I opened the little box where the motor and belt was and found out that the motor was not running. I tried to lubricate the bearings with some oil but I am not sure it helped much. Is it possible I have gotten a tumbler with a faulty motor? Seems unlikely. I will go out in the garage and see if i can find any other fault.

Thanks, the machine seems to run much better now! It can probably handle all 3 barrels now even!
