Here is a .410 I have had for like 30 years, it had been moved here and there and got a lot of scratches and dings, so I refinished it. Took it down to bare wood, carved, refinished and re-blued. www.minifarm.com/images/done 410.jpg[/img] www.minifarm.com/images/done forearm.jpg[/img] www.minifarm.com/images/done stock.jpg[/img] Here is a High Stardard .22 about 40 years old. I carved the grip from a block of Maple, then carved the basket weave and a small maple leaf. odd shaped grip but that is the shape the original was. And last, I made this grip for my Hi Point 9mm out of Zebra Wood.

Really beautiful work, Nancy! Do you do the carvings freehand, or do you start with a pattern? I just can't imagine carving something as gorgeous as those from scratch! It boggles my mind. (But then, my mind boggles really easily these days! LOL!)

Tom, I work it out on paper, how I would like it to look, then I do use that drawing as a pattern but more often than not it does go freehand, lol. The 9mm was totally pattern because inside those grips are areas that are required, and had to be carved in, to make some of the innards work. These sculptures I do totally freehand, just look at reference photos. The "pig" recently went "Best in Division" at a show, and was also 2nd at the International Carver's Guild about 3 years ago. The Yorkie I just did after a 3 year layoff from carving.

Amazing carvings Nancy! I was at my local woodworkers guild show Sunday. The woodworking is amazing!
On a side note, how do you like that hi-point?

Good grief! I want to pet the dog! That is just incredible. When I saw the guns I couldn't help from thinking about the guy that advertised for a good woman with a bass boat, send photos of the boat. How do you find time to play with rocks?

Nate Aw guys, you make me blush  Thank you all for the kind praise. Nate: I LOVE the Hi Point. It was not without issues at first, but as everything I read on the gun said, it just takes breaking in. After approx. 400 rounds, cleaning after each time to the range and a little buffing here and there, it is running flawlessly and is quite accurate too. I think I am going to use it in a fun competition in May. It is run loosely on IDPA rules, so newbies can learn and have fun. All proceeds go to "Shoot for A Cure" (only in Idaho) lol. Anyway it really is a cool gun at a very low price! this is the C9 (compact) but still a bit larger/heavier than I want for concealment so I got the Taurus TCP too. Now I must decide which one to use

3 words, Nancy: O M G!!!!!! Those statues/carvings just blew me away! I'm in awe. The Yorkie is very lifelike, and the piggy is a cutie, but the wapiti .... Oh My Goodness! He's AMAZING!

Beautiful work on all of them. I have a High Standard very similar to yours.Yours is the Sentinal, and mine is a slightly fancier one called The Marshal, with artificial bone grips. Also have the High Standard 2 barreled derringer. Both are sweet shooting weapons. Don

I knew these were a very low budget hand gun. I looked into buying one but shied away when I read of the isses with them. I thought I read of issues with the firing pin. I don't remember now lol. I went with a Smith & Wesson Sigma .40 cal. Still a lower budget/entry level gun, but fills my needs completely.
Good luck in the competition! Nate
