This is a necklace I recently did. I cut the stones from book matched slabs. So the stones matched from side to side. It was another challenge to myself. I had never done a hinged style like this before or whith structured design. I generally do freeform cabs (except when doing buterflys or dragonflys). The reall challenge was keeping the hinges tight so no slop. But also not to solder them solid as I assembled it. Each hinge had to be filed & fit by it self. Then soldered together so the pin was captured & not visable. One by one. Kingman stabelized Turquoise, 24 ga backing plates, 3/16" straight bezel & #8 high dome half round. With tube & steel pins. I buy the chain by the foot locally. I managed to only solder one hinge together early in the process. Then I figgured a way not to do that again LOL I think it turned out ok. What do you think?

I like the pin and tube hinge myself. But, I have soldered more together than I have made them work. Have to redo 2 out of 3.
What is your secret for not soldering them into a mass?

Thanks all for the kind words. I love working with Turquoise & silver. I guess when you love something it'll show. I still concider myself an amature. Since I really don't sell much. I've done some commisions & sold a few (mostly to friends). But I need to find an outlet for my work. With the cost of silver these days. It's getting harder & harder to afford to do it just for fun. My wife's jewelry box is more that overflowing now LOL

That is absolutely a spectacular creation. Great cabuchoning and silversmithing combination. The hinges must have been a real challenge. Did you try to make some kind of heat sink so the solder would not flow along the hinge...or white out to block it?
