These are a couple of pieces I made from carvings of frogs I did. I did the necklace & bracelet a couple of years ago for my wife. She was wearing it in Gallup & we went into a high end collectors shop. The owner noticed them & asked if it was a Leekia? She said no it's a Surber & pointed to me. LOL Probably the best compliment I've ever gotten. Leekia is one of my insperations & my hero. He was a Zuni carver in the 30s & 40s & is highly collectable. The Frog is the "Rain Bringer" & she's worn them in Az. & N. M. when it hadn't rained for months. But it rained those days. So I guess the little guy does his thing LOL I didn't do the cast bracelet. I have a friend that has a pawn shop in Gallup. I bought several rough cast bracelets & belt buckes from him a few years ago. Casting is one thing I've never really gotten into doing. With the cost of silver these days. Not likely in the near future LOL They were done by one of the Begay family (don't remember which one. But begay is like Smith or Jones LOL a big family). Made from Kingman Turquoise.
The Bolo I made for myself last year. Lucin Valley Utah Variscite & red Mediterranian coral. I was in a shop in Gallup last Oct. The owner noticed it & was going on & on about the coral. How high grade it was. Raving about the color & how you can't get that quallity now days etc. I was in the shop about 10 min. before he even noticed the frog in the middle LOL He said "oh! there's a frog too!" LOL The eyes are gold lip peral shell with jet centers. The spots are red coral too.

Sorry for the kind of blurry pix. my camera won't get that cloe I guess even on macro setting.

rocknrob: There was a shop in Portland, don't know if it's still there called Kenny and Zukes who made the absolute best pastrami sandwiches I have ever had. The problem is every restaurant thinks their sandwich is worth $20 now and seldom makes the grade. Nov 12, 2024 9:53:31 GMT -5
