This is our second agate lamp. It is about 12 inches tall and has a 7 inch shade. This one was made for my mother. All Montana agate, and a store bought base on this one.

Not difficult at all. Just a lot of time. Thanks for the compliment.

Ooooh, sooo beautiful!!! I saw a couple of carnelian lamps at a local rock shop, very similar, and have always thought that someday I would like to make one.... You did a FANTASTIC job and I just love Montana Agate!!!!

That is beautiful! I would think with the rounded top, it would be a bit difficult! You really did a great job! Fran

That's a really nifty idea, and a very pretty lampshade. Tell me - did you foil the stones, or did you use lead came? I guess the heat from soldering doesn't bother the Montana much.

Thanx to all for the comments.
Fran- Very small slabs had to be used on this one. Once we bought the mold I realized the slabs I had ready were way to big Had to cut and polish smaller ones.
Tom- Slabs were copper foiled. I noticed one small crack in a slab got longer from the heat.
Krystee- I have some rough carnelian and thought about a lamp . But was wondering if it would be to red. May I ask your opinion since you have seen one?
Thanx again to all for the comments...... Jim

I have always been a big fan and collector of stained glass. This lamp adds a totally new dimension to the art. Beautiful work!!!! Stu

That is really nice. I think that your lamp is sweet!! How do you get that textured look on the joints? What kind of mold do you use?

Jim, The carnelian ones that I've seen are beautiful. The look they give off reminds me of sitting in a dark rustic log cabin in front of a huge open fire. Definitely more of a romantic accent light than a reading light... ~Krystee

Christopher - The textured look is solder [ just like stained glass ] and the mold is a fiberglass stained glass lamp mold.
Krystee- Thank you, I guess I will be slabbing up some carnelian
