I had about 2.5lbs done in the rotary for stage one ready to go to the vibe for stage two. I added it to a 4lb bowl and it filled it a bit over 2/3rds full. So I add 2 rounded Tbls of grit, start it, and spray water til it looks good. Also threw in a pinch of Ivory Snow. Then I realized I grabbed the wrong bag and used 500 Al Oxide instead of 120/200 SiC. So I went and added 2 rounded Tbls of 120/200 SiC. I figured why let throw the 500 away. I'll just let it all go. So now it's running in 4Tbls of 120/200/500. I guess will see what happens. I'm following the instructions on the vibe instruction thread so I guess I'll just let it run three days an then do the second step of 120/200.

It may have done just fine starting with 500--sometimes the earlier stage grits break down enough that you can skip 120/220 altogether. But--you should be fine with what you did as well.

I too have a 4 lb bowl on my vibe. The instructions for mine call for 2 tsp. of grit at each stage. I'm just hopin' that with as much grit as you used that you don't have a big mess on your hands. Good Luck!

Well everything is still moving so I'm not worried about two much grit gumming things up.
The stones are all round enough but I do want to get a tad more smoothing, not just polishing so I did want a 120/200 stage.
With the amount of grit, I think maybe I should just let it run for four or five days instead of swap the grit after two.

keep an eye on your movement with that much grit. mine will slow down and solidify instead of a nice goopy grit mixture. i always have to give mine a few squirts from the spray bottle a couple of times a day during the process. usually after a full day of vibrating. now if you are using a tumbler, water should not be a problem but time is and more than a week with the amount of grit you used is what i use in my 3# tumbler. two level tbsp of ao500 is what i use and then let it go for a week or two before changing. charlie

When I run 5 lbs. at a time I run in 220 for 4-5 days and as suggested keep a spray bottle handy to spritz it a couple of times a day at least. Then on to 400-1000 or I use 600 sometimes before prepolish stage. 1 -2 tsp. of Borax to each load for me also. Finer grits do not use as much water as the lower #`s. No standing water at all in the bottom of the bowl. The drier the better if you still get good movement from the stones tumbling.
