Has anyone ever gotten any bad polish I have tried for a week now to get these rocks to shine , I have ordered some tripoli and some more C/OXIDE .(different place this is not ordered from ebay ). I have tried with a little water and borax , alot or water and borax they have been tumbling dry with polish and borax since last night !pulled out any rocks that even might not look super smooth (even though I have felt them and they fill super slick) .

I've received some bad polish. Mostly the cheap AO that Covington sells. Last batch went into the trash. Ended up turning into foam. May have been Tide detergent? Sure acted like it. Also received CO that is different colors, from light brown to bright white, all from different vendors. I basically tumble the same material, all hand picked from the same locations. I now test out the polish in small batches before I use it in large quantities.

I have never had luck with Cerium Oxide. I stick with Alum Oxide and Tin Oxide. Some polishes do take longer than others. I run my Alum Oxide for 3 weeks and get much better results than if I only let it go 2 weeks.

Hi I have used CO and got a excelent finish
What type of rock are you polishing?
If they were not polished most people would sujest to go back 2 stages , say to 600 to 1000G
Wash throughly between stages ? are you sure there is no contamination ?
Are they in a rotary or Vibe ?
You talk about days it takes week or two to polish in a rotary(See Stephan above ) and min of 2 + days in a vibe (polishing stage )
Hope this is of help

Yes, the main question is 'what kind of rock' are you working with? There are some stubborn rocks out there that wont take a shine no matter what you do. Perhaps you could post some pictures of them and I'm sure some of the knowledgeable folks on this site can get you pretty far along if not all the way to a near perfect shine. Like Jack (Yorkshire) says, there are many factors working all at the same time. -Chris.
