I started doing them this way because when I first started wrapping I would get a perfect tight wrap just to mess the top up at the very end. I was frustrated because one wrap would take me all night. I then decided to grab a bunch of tumbled stones and drill them to practice doing just the tops. Funny thing is that whenever anyone would come over to my house they would always ask if they could buy my practice drilled tumbled wraps. They would completely ignore the cabs that took me hours to complete... so, voila, I drill 90% now and save money!
