I'm back to tumbling again after a trip to the Rocky's (and a rock store) with my kids. I have always been a rock hound, and I remember the early childhood days of hunting agates along the Mississippi River as a little kid. I have one round of mixed rough from the store I'm working on now (not good stuff, but it's something), but I'm looking for some good agate to work on next. Any suggestions? I live in San Angelo, TX now, so I can't find my own anymore...only caliche

Welcome, I cant help you out with where to find the agates, I'm about 300 miles east of you in agateless country. Wasnt it 107 or 108 degrees in San Angelo a day or 2 ago?

There are several members on here who might be able to help you out. Mel, where are you? Also check out local rock and mineral clubs for people who might know and be willing to share local rock information. I found one in Abilene - rockclub.txol.net/aboutus.htm also check out the TX listing on Bob's Rock Shop site www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/clubs/texas.shtml Looks to be one in Midland and Big Spring too. Sometimes local rock clubs are the best source for rockhounding information although sometimes not, just depends on the members.
