I have discovered viking knit. It is very time consuming but repeticious so it is relaxing and something that can be done while watching tv. This is how it starts out. (yes that is a dop stick.) You can see it looks no where near perfect. And is a lot wider than the finished product. After you weave this to half the length you want you stretch it out by pulling it through a series of holes in wood. This is my first attempt, I made this one about 6 inches long. This is a close up of my second attempt. It is 18 inches long after stretching it out. It came out better and I modified the way the new lengths are woven in so they don't poke out. This is my second attempt finished into a necklace. I just happened to have a wrap to go with it. All are done with 28G craft wire. It takes a LOT of wire. The red one took me about 5 hours of weaving time. For 1 inch of weaving you need about 3 feet of wire. So for a nine inch weave which will be stretched to 18 inches it would take about 27 feet of wire. It is very light weight and comfortable to wear. I learned of this while I was selling at the craft fair. Another artist was doing this. Then I looked it up online and bought a tutorial. What do you think? Amy

Amy, I do this with some nails and a wooden spool. I learned it in Quartzsite. They make great chains for pendants. I'm working on a vid for a tutorial (in the editing phase). This is fascinating to see it done another way. Very cool. Jo

Amy that is so cool. You sure can weave. I don't have the patience to do something like that.
