Hello All!
I made this post on another rocking hounding website and recieved an answer to check out this site to find some Texas Rockhounds. I am trying to round out our Texas Family Vacation and wanted to share the information that I have found and ask for input and idea's.
Thank You for any help you can offer!
Where we are headed to:
DFW to (Briggs, Llano, Mason, Junction, Burnet, Enchanted Rock, maybe to San Antonio, Garner)
I would love some input on the adventures we are looking at, as I am still trying to iron out our plans. We have an RV, two children 7 & 11, with a max 4 hr attention span.
Thank You for any help you can offer!
1. Briggs, Junction Tx or ? – www.austindiggers.com - Pay to dig site for Arrowheads.
• Is it worth the cost?
• Screen Dig vs Dig?
• I need a “Finding Arrowheads for Dummies” kind of experience.
2. Llano - Blue Topaz, Panning for Gold?
• www.txroadrunners.com Searched for Blue Topaz, but rarely finds what he is looking for, found Llanite. Is it the place or technique?
• llanochamber.com/minerals.html
• www.masoncountynews.com/news/article/34584
3. Mason – Sequest Ranch, Blue Topaz and bats.
• www.findingrocks.com/cgi-bin/viewlocations.cgi?state=TX&country=US
• geology.uprm.edu/Morelock/29Mas.htm
• www.sanantoniovisitor.com/mason-texas.htm
•
• - bats
4. New Braunfels:
• newbraunfels-tx.net/ - New Braunfels
• www.naturalbridgecaverns.com/
5. Burnet County
• www.longhorncaverns.com/
6. Enchanted Rock – I haven’t found much info on where to go at Enchanted Rock to pan for gold.
Other Questions:
Where is the most affordable place to buy pans and screens?
I read that topaz is fluorescent and will show up in UV light. Does that mean we could look at night with a blue light or am I confusing my glow in the dark rocks?
