This piece was collected by a friend in a wash leading into the Yellowstone River, north of Billings. Face appears to have a broken fossil. The top appears to have cross sections of many of these ? fossils. Any ideas or ID ? Don

From these pics,it looks like just a beautiful Montana agate..............I've seen those rings before on Montana agate. Best thing to do is have Tom Harmon out of Savage,MT look at them.......... harmons@harmons.net www.harmons.net

Tom Harmon has already seen it. The collector who gave me this stone took a load of Montana's by for him to look at. The thing that has me wondering is the broken cone shape in the 1st pic. It has ridges, just like a cone shell. My friend who found this hit a honey hole, and isn't talking about the location. One of the Montana's he showed to me is one of the nicest splitters I've ever seen, and about 6" across.

Either way,it looks like a keeper.............(Thumbs up) A fossil could have incorporated into a agate during a trancition of nature........Nothing is impossible,right...........

This one won't be cut yet. I'll try to get a more detailed pic of the suspect part.
